Info needed: Rx7 brake conversion for AE86 Thu, 26 February 2004 12:58 Go to next message
Hey guys,

Thinking about doing the rx7 brake conversion on my ae86. I've done a search and found very little info. i know you would need custom caliper brackets and to redrill the calipers. Main reason i want to do the rx7 conversion is because i dont want to change struts and i reckon the rx7 conversion will brake better.

thanks

-Ian

The japan yahoo auction site has the brackets for sale regulary. Might be worth ordering a set from Japan?

Do it.

Be careful to measure clearances though. The calipers are very wide to fit pistons on both sides and I had trouble getting the caliper to clear the wheel and the disc to clear the lower control arm. Maybe my wheels are just special, but look into it. Can give you a better explanation if needed.

It is interesting to note that in the above link, in the notes section of this auction, "The seller will not ship internationally"...

I found this one for a company in the US, although 450 USD is a bit steep.

Sorry I should have mentioned, Christian who is a sponsor of Toymods, he can get stuff from Japan at a cost.

Also I know someone else who lives in Japan, you give the money to them and they order it and post it for you.

Wouldnt the jdm calipers and disks be easier.

What about DBA, dont they make performance disks for the ae86.

I can understand why people want to upgrade but isnt brake conversion just that little bit risky. Not to mention the cost, although im not sure of the cost of the things i have suggested?

just a thought.

Something like these for example with a decent set of pads.

I know the standard calipers are small but there not totally useless.
