BBC CRUNCHES INTO REVERSE OVER CLARKSON HI-LUX STUNT

The BBC has been forced to make a sharp u-turn over a stunt performed on BBC TWO's motoring programme Top Gear.

Presenter Jeremy Clarkson drove a Toyota pick-up into a 30 year old chestnut tree in a North Somerset village to prove the car's indestructible qualities.

The on-going saga involved parking the reliable truck in the sea and dropping it from an exploding block of flats, regardless of attempts to destroy it the car remained drivable - much to everyone’s amazement.

Producers didn't disclose the location of the tree smashing incident but an eagle eyed viewer recognised the location and reported it. Local parish council deputy chairman and church warden Pam Millward who discovered the battered tree said:

"We looked at the tree (after the programme was aired) and saw red paint and glass, so I contacted the BBC"

Worried that the "badly scarred" leaf grower would not recover from its ordeal Millard claimed the programme makers didn't even ask permission.

BBC bosses were forced to crunch into reverse and admit they were sorry, sending the church goers £250 as an apology.

Badly battered tree? Have you seen how little damage is caused to a tree after a car accident. Trees are unbreakable... Especially a 30yr old one. Cars can barely knock over a light pole let alone kill a tree. Stupid churchy whingers. Mad

after seeing the result of a 2 tonne US pickup truck (i _think_ it was an F250) hitting a tree at about 150km/hr, i think that trees are a little more unbreakable than any car.....

ppl are much much much more breakable when they hit aforementioned tree thru the windscreen Sad

depends of the kind of tree too i guess. like how some trees are like rock, really hard to break, even and 2 inch wide branch, but some are just flimsy, and easy to break. guess a hollow tree wouldnt be too hard to take out with a car...
but on topic, people are such complainers these days, just cant wait for something to kick up a fuss about. its a tree for fucks sake! not like there isnt a heaps of them around, and it wasnt even damaged, that just petty.

That must have been one fucked up rotten tree... 30cm diameter would not normally break that easy.

Love the way it was in the unique position of having the body holding the chassis together instead of the other way around.
