Lexus Performance And Engineering is providing popular with Hot Rod and Race Car enthusiasts, displacing larger American based engines in a recent compeditive racing event...

A modified Lexus LS400 V8 engine has claimed victory at Willowbank Raceways Supercharged Outlaws drag racing series in Queensland - over vehicles with much larger engines... It was the smallest Capacity engine in the class...

In the first Lexus win in the sport, Team Capricorns 4.0 litre (240ci) Lexus Piranha Hot Rod constantly beat compeditors powered by 8.0 litre (500ci) engines...

Driven by Nathan Peirano, the supercharged Lexus Hot Rod will compete again in other drag races...

Car owners Peter and Heather Peirano are among a growing number of Hot Rod show car and drag racing enthusiasts favouring high performing, lightweight Lexus engines over the more common Chev, Chrysler and Fords...

Mr Peirano said the attraction of the Lexus engine was its quality design and engineering...

"These engines are so superior in their initial design - they come standard with six bolt main bearing caps and a steel crank..."

The Lexus LS400 Quad Cam multivalve configuration allows the supercharged drag racing version to exceed 9000rpm and to generate 1000hp (745kW) - or four times the power of the stock LS400 engine...

The drag race engines power could be boosted in future to a mammoth 1600hp (1200kW)...

Nathan Peirano drive a consistant series of passes at Willowbank, culminating in an 8.27 second time for the standing quarter mile and a win in the final over Darryl Woods' 7.67 litre Ford...

i think that once you're competing in the sub-5 second drag monster bracket ... it's assumed you're running a nitromethanol powered Keith Black or similar aluminium, several-thousand horsepowered, monster V8 - and you have the cash (from sponsors like USA Toyota) to have a supply of blocks, heads, internals, gearboxes, chassis, wheels, fuel, etc to consume or destroy at every meeting.

i believe i heard recently (i think it was on the toyota F1 preview show on telly) that Toyota is making a foray into drag racing, producing large capacity motors to take on the other large cap engines available... as part of their world push to show they can (in just a couple of years) outperform in ANY class of racing...

they showed a pic of that funny car, but i can't remember the details Wink

The Celica Funny Car was developed using the production Celica GT-S as the baseline..... PML Laughing

Toyota's 2002 drag racing program will also include TRD engine support for two vehicles in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series. Christian Rado will campaign a 750-hp Celica in the Modified class, while Craig Paisley will race a 900-hp Tundra in the Pro Import class.

more celicas

and finally.. Pro-FWD celica using 3RZ motor???????

So going on that theory, I spose this car is powered by Big Macs? Rolling Eyes. Actually, it would have to be a big 20 pack of Nuggets to keep up with Toyota's 4AGE front wheel drive Funny Car. Rolling Eyes.

And yes, most motors are keith black motors, which I would have explained to you if you didnt know much about Funny Car engines and if you didn't reply like an Asshat.

oldcorollas: All that Funny Car info you linked up is basically telling you that a Celica-looking, Toyota-sponsored funny car has entered the NHRA competition, and reached the top five too! There is no way Toyota could develop a motor from scratch "easily" as such, because Keith Black motors have dominated for a long time. I know for 1 I wouldn't sell my 6000+hp Keith Black for a Toyota!

I think you will find like most motorsport classes Top Fuel is restricted in the motors they can use. Everyone basically runs the same block (replica 426 Hemi's with significant strengthening as you would expect) with restrictions on superchargers etc. There are also limits like 2 valves per cylinder etc. Mind you at 6,000hp alot of the flash technology just doesn't really help.
Basically the cars are rolling billboards, no one expects to be able to walk into a showroom and buy one. But subconciously if you get the Toyota emblem flashed past you often enough it will have an impact, ezpecially if its winning.
