Rubber seal - MC to brake booster Ta22

OK so i'm changing my master cylinder.
Have bent up the new lines I need - all good.
I noticed when i pulled my original MC off, it had a rubber seal which went into the booster (around the outside of it)
I also noticed on the ae93 scrap one I have it has a rubber seal around it too.
The pajero one I got doesn't have a seal at all.
My question is what does this seal do? Much of anything? Prevent leakage of vaccuum around the booster to the MC join? Anyone?

Rubber seal?
What do you mean by a rubber seal that went into the booster? I've never seen a TA22 one, but on the Corolla there are two distinct parts - booster and MC.
The end of the MC that goes into the booster is just a metal cylinder with an open end (that has the thing that the pushrod pushes against).
The hole in the booster where the MC goes in has a rubber seal with a hole in the middle, the pushrod goes through this hole. Is this the rubber seal you're talking about? If so, it should be part of your booster, not the MC. And as far as I can tell it's only purpose is to stop dirt and stuff getting in and out, because it isn't airtight...
