questions of engine conversion about AE86 Mon, 12 August 2002 00:36 Go to next message
Hi, I got some questions about AE86.
1.Will these engines, 4AGE(100kw), 4AGE 20V, 4AGZE, fit in the
stardard 4AC gearbox??
2.Can these engines fit in to AE86 with the 4AC engine mounts??
3.Will the extractor of 4AC fits those engines?? So I don't have
to custom make one. I just can't pay all those money in one
time.
4.Can I still use the original A/C with those engines??

thanks for any help with these questions.

1) Yes (except the GZE flywheel won't fit, you'll have to use a 4AGE one)
2) Yes (other mods notwithstanding, ie. distributor hanging out the back of the 20V)
3) No - the exhaust ports on the 4AC are on the opposite side
4) Only if you use the original V-belt pulleys, which I'm not sure is possible, but I have heard of one guy doing it.

rite.
So I have to custom make a extractor.
This has to take into my budget as well.
Then I might just have to go for a 4AGE. Nope

Then will the exhaust port of a 4AGE same as a 20V 4AGE? Rolling Eyes
Considering for later conversion to 20V from 4AGE. hehehe
If not, then I should just figure out how to squeeze some money to get a 20V 4AGE. No No No

the 20v 4age requires a fair bit more work to get running in there.
The dizzy going through the firewall means either aftermarket computer with coil packs, or re-locate dizzy.

Thanks for those info.

All I know for 20V 4AGE conversion is that I need to make a hole in the firewall for the dizzy and to get a pipe running from the back of the engine to the front.
Any other mods needed??
If there are still heaps of mods needed. I think 4AGE is more suitable for my budget.

And is it easy to re-locate the stock dizzy?? Someone send me a website of a re-locate dizzy dits in the front of the engine, cost like a Apexi power fc!!!!! $1300USD!!!!!!!!!
So if it's not easy to get it re-located. I would just make a hole in the firewall.

Hi PepsiCola,

I've been led to believe that apart from the location of one bolt, the exhaust manifold is identical between the 16V and 20V. But if you plan on upgrading to a 20V later on, the extractors will be the least of your worries..

My advice is that if you are working on any sort of limited budget, then a 16V 4AGE is the way to go. Putting a 20V in a sprinter will almost certainly involve the need for an aftermarket computer, along with all the extra dyno/tuning costs that go along with it. Besides the distributor, there will need to modify the water outlets at the back of the head, as well as ditching the airbox/AFM as well (which means going aftermarket ECU as well).

aircon, i got it Wed, 14 August 2002 04:09 Go to previous message
i got 4ac aircon on my 4ag, bolts straight up, well you have to cut the timing cover a bit, no biggy. I'm also using alternator from 4ac. Use the v-belt type pulley from the 4ac. Alternator is on the drivers side, I used a FWD bracket that's been ground down a bit, you'll see where when you try to fit it. A bit of wiring, making the wires longer, alternator sits on passenger side in 4ac config, and your all done
