just out of curiosity, is it possible to turn a 3S-FE stock SV21 camry engine into a 3S-GTE? if so, how hard is it and what does it involve?

At least there is someone else who thinks on the same level as I am. I want to turn a 3S-GE to a 3S-GTE but most people suggest just getting the 3S-GTE motor.I have seen some info on turbocharging the 3S-FE and 5S-FE engine in another forum. It is possible to get the 3S-GTE turbo, turbo manifold and oil feed lines and water lines and fabricate a custom front mount. I think the highest amount of boost that can be ran on the stock internals is 7-8psi. Some people take it a step futher and get forged pistons a metal head gasket. I also read that the 3S-GTE head can bolt unto the 3S-FE so you can look into that as well.
But in my personal opinion it can be done.

everyone suggests getting a 3s-gte because its simpler and cheaper.
possibly changing a mount or two, and some mild electrical crap is better than totally reworking an entire engine. (although 3s-fe's are tough enough to last with 100hp, not so for 150hp)
personally ive kinda given up 'upgrading' my camry, i'll only fix if it's broke. then just buy a celica or mr2 when the feeling sways me!

yeah it's possible, was talking to a guy tonight across the road from work who has an ST204 celica with a 5SFE that has been turbocharged with a garret T28, he said it runs 8psi boost, some workshop here in canberra did it all including decopressing the pistions.
