First of all check the EFI Fuse, then the Fuel Pump Fuse then the Fuel Pump relay. Using a multimeter you can use the check connector next to the plenum to check if the pump is getting voltage. Undo the return line and crank with the return line on a container to see if it flowing.

Also check the open circuit relay.

Are you getting spark?

When you say surge tank then you have a aftermarket fuel system? As just about no car has a external surge tank from the factory.

If you have a surge tank then you would have a feed pump to the surge tank then a high pressure pump from the surge to the fuel rail. If the surge is not filling up then I would be looking at the feed pump.

Need more info.

Normal way is to squeeze the 'pressure side' (before regulator) fuel hose as hard as you can with your fingers, then turn the key on, you should feel it 'bulge' slightly

If no luck there, pull the hose off, if no pressure built up, then point the end in a tin and see if there's any fuel flow with the key first turned on for a couple of seconds.

Also, are you sure you have spark, the injectors are working, etc.?

has the car ran at all
is this a conversion and u r stuck

some 1js have an fuel pump ecu sort off
and u cant use a circuit opening relay properly

so u just run fuel pump off ignition
or try get one of these fuel pump ecus

i think these are jzx30 1js

otherwise find the pump and see if u have 12vs at the blue wire
and an earth on the white/black trace wire

start at the fuel pump then work yr way back to the front

the car has ran for nearly a year after the conversion

dont i need to jumper the FP and B+ in the diagnosis block to test the pump, i not really sure though. spark and injectors are working. i cant hear anything when the car is on red.

mistake on the surge tank. it is a black rectangula shape, the top hose go back to the throttle (the line is next to the return line). what's that

yep, jumper the diagnostic... that should make your fuelpump run at full voltage..

Sometimes the fuel pump relay goes, causing the probs you describe.

Don't quote me on this, but I am pretty sure that MA70's don't actually build up fuel pressure in the 'on' position. I would guess that JZA70s may be the same...

Correct - fuel pump only runs when the opening circuit is on, which is when the ignition is cranking and once the motor fires, if the motor stalls, the fuel pump will stop - unless you've bypassed that relay Smile

unless the diagnostic is shorted, in which case the pressure should raise, and return by the return line.
