icon9.gif  Blew 2 Cylinders... Now any alternatives? Mon, 01 March 2004 12:04 Go to next message
Hey All,

My Invincible 5M-E motor is now running on 4 cylinders. I blew piston #1 & #2. Crying or Very Sad

Now, the question is, I have had the head redone to run PULP and rebuilt the air conditioner compressor. Surprised

My question to everyone is, how much money would it cost to get the engine reconditioned? Like, new pistons, rings, bearings etc... Confused

Or should I look for another motor from all the money I am spending on the reconditioning... Though, I want to keep the car so any ideas would be appreciated. Cool

Cheers.

to re bore the motor it will cost you around $200. to deck the motor around 50 to acid dip it clean also around50. this is ok if the motor hasnt been rooted by the pistons then you will need a new block. other questions to consider are have the pistons that blew hit the head at all? if they have youre heads probably now screwed. if not it all good. and also are you rods still ok. pistons will probably be in the range f $250 to $600 depending what you want and rings about $140. these prices are all from my past experiences building motors but have never worked on M motors before.

best bet take the motor out (if its not already) take the head off (if its not already) and take it to an engine machiner so they can tell exactly what you need to do.

What do you mean by redone to run on PULP?

Rebuilding a 5M-E will cost several times more than it's worth. Don't even consider it, throw it in the bin and start afresh.

Um are you sure you have blown it? They usually don't just go bang.

Anyway, don't waste your time rebuilding it. If you must rebuild something, buy a dead 7MGE and rebuild that - the price differential will be minimal.

Or just do the 7MGTE/1JZ thing.
