Got pulled over for my first speeding fine ever Saturday night - 125 in an 80 zone (just changed from a 100 zone) but the cop said because of equipment deviance and my good attitude he'd downgrade it to 30-45km over...on the spot fine $565.
Now I'm fine to pay it, sure I sped therefore I'll pay the penalty. However a 3 month loss of licence is something I cant get by with. I use my car to get to and from work, especially since I work shift work. My question is: when I pay the fine will I get the option of taking probational points and keeping the licence or will I get a straight 3 month ban? Up to now I have a clean driving record from five years of driving. If I dont get the option, whats the usual way to go about lodging an appeal to get the suspension revoked?

dude that sux.. I just saw you were like 24 with a clean record! on ya!  I can't believe mine is still clean too.
I know there are sometimes "probational" suspensions. I have heard of it once. Be worth following up for sure.
I have also heard of people "overpaying" the fine so that you will be issued with a rebate, ie you pay $580 or something, then they send you a cheque for $15 which you never cash, therefore the procedure is stalled untill the account is square. But it sounds like a bit of a tall tale to me.. but for a few dollars you could find out and enlighten us.
I know I haven't told you how to lodge an appeal tho' sorry. I actually don't know. I am sure people here do know though.

you'll find on the back of the infringment notice you can fill it in and elect to goto court instead of just paying up. fill it in have your day in court and thats the place to appeal.

If you do loose your license, you can apply for a work license that you can use sticktly for work 
Due to your lack of previous convictions, you will almost certainly get it.

well am inthe same boat here.
lost my last three points some time ago, wanted to put off the three month loss so i didnt pay the fine.
got to the last "final" warning time and they sent me a letter opting to go on a probationary licence for 12 months on 2 points. easy to fill out form that u do at the rta and effective from time loss of licence suppose to occur.
only thing is if you lose 2 or more points in that 12 months u will lose licence for twice as long.
oh and i have a bad recored so dont swet it!

unfortunately 30-45 over the limit in NSW means AUTOMATIC suspension for 3 months, regardless of points. You cannot get a good behaviour/probation period for automatic suspensions, you only get this option for suspensions due to loss of points.
Therefore your options are to either
a) go to court and ask for leniency (not sure how successful this would be) or
b) to apply for a work licence, not sure if you have to go to court for this or not, someone on here should know the procedure, but i believe you need a letter from your employer to prove it.

when i lost mine they gave me the option of lose it for 3 mths or go to probabtional licence with 1 point for twelve mths. If u lose that point u lose your licence for 6 mths. Thats in qld anyway.NOTE i have now lost my licence for 2 lots of 6 mths.

In Queensland if you are on your P's and you loose your license you cannot go on a good behavior/probational license.

i dont know where u heard that from but i was on my p's and i lost my licence for speeding and i went onto a probational licence for 12 mths but unfortunatly i lost that to
