EXP of interest: Carbon Bonnets

I am looking at producing CF bonnets for the AE86 and many other cars from other manufacturers such as Nissan and Subaru and Mitsubishi.
And although my prices are no where near as cheap the Commander, I am based in melbourne and I can be chased down in person.
I am looking for the moment in peoples interest only, at this stage in OEM and Vented bonents for the AE86 there are only three types of bonnet we will be making and they range in price from AUS$800 - AUS$2000 for the real race car owner.
All bonnets are for race use only and come either with or without vents and scoops at the moment we will only be making two variations. All bonnets do however come with standard fasteners - meaning its a staight bolt up to your normal hinges and clips/ recommended that you install bonnet pins i can supply them pre drilled if necessary
Type-S] Show Quality
Full Fibreglass $790
Fibreglass + Top layer Carbon Fibre $1050
(includes shell and subframe)
Type-R] Weight Saver
Carbon Fibre with Kevlar 50/50 $1480
(inlcudes shell and subframe)
Type-X] Pro SuperLite
Full Carbonfibre shell only $1890
(Only shell)
All feedback is welcome as long as its constructive

hey all, thanks to those who have relpied.
AE86T the bonnet can be made quite easily, what spec bonnet do you want....
AE95 the fibre glass bonnets are usually around half the wieght, carbon fibre will weigh between 1.2kg and 5 kg dependent on whether you buy the type-r or type-x pro superlight
thanks guys and keep the interest coming

I think it would be great if you did start making these. You probably will not be able to sell to many of them though I imagine.
I do have a few questions. Are they vacuum formed or just made free air?
Also what makes them race use only? Does a CF bonnet break one of the ADRs?
Thanks

It would be great to see some pics of these bonnets, each type and detailed views of specific parts.
It'd be even better if actual pics of finished bonnets were supplied too, that way, there will be a QA.
Are they made with a latch ? simliar to the factory latch?
VERY interested. What is the availability and expected make time?
Thanks mate

Mate i would be interested...but only if you told me this about 2-3 weeks ago. I don't want to but i have to get a replacement cf bonnet from shitty fkn carmate....who i fkn hate cos of their quality and even the people who work there!! That bonnet will be 1.1k -1.2k for somethin like a fibreglass base with 3 sheets of carbon fibre on top....really quite dodgy.
So i would love to see what you can do but unfortunatelly do not have the time to wait for that long. I think it would be a good idea for you to make a sample, something you can show to people.....this is what most new shops and places do they make one or two copies and then they introduce them to the market thru interested customers. Would love to see some pics if possible.

Ey Guys thanks for the replies again
we are looking at making at least an AE86 bonnet and a R33 skyline bonnet to show people what we can do. all bonnets if they were painted witht he exception of the pro superlight would be a very close match to the OEM bonnet supplied when you buy your car...
latches niges and places for the few bonnets supported by struts.
as stated though our prices do nott vary between models of cars at this stage but only in the model of bonnet ei Tyep "s" "r" "x"
anyways better be off please pm me for further info or e-mail me at

no one laugh at the e-mail "I love my 86"

the idea that carbon fibre bonnets or fibreglass ones for that matter are legal on the road is BS you cannot and i mean cannot try and tell a Cop or Vic Roads that a CF bonnet is ADR approved unless it has been crash tested.
Sadly and I mean sadly I and many others who are investing in this know that the costs involved are at least $10,000 pluys for every model of car that you design a bonnet for it will cost you that car to be crashed.
I cannot bring myself to crash anything as sexy or as nible as a AE86 or even lesser a skyline GTR lol
With all seriousness i will not sell these bonnet with the intension that you will stick them on road cars...
Either way i am about to start production on an AE86 OEM and a Nissan Skyline R33 GTS-T Series one with Twin Reversed Intakes and two smaller vents one the top.

I would suggest that most people are aware of the amount of funds and effort needed to gain ADR compliance.
I was more interested in which ADRs are broken from the use of CF bonnets. Obviously you are unable to use CF bumpers for example due to compliance issues etc as they are obviosuly crash tested. I'll have to look into this more myself.
From the sounds of it you have not actually made a single CF bonnet yet. Hope you go well.
