Extractor coatings Wed, 03 March 2004 09:36 Go to next message
I just got my hands on a second-hand set of APEXi 4-1 extractors for my 4ag. They are a beautiful design but look pretty shitty cause they are used... so I want to paint or coat them in something.
Whats the best/most cost effective way to go.
Powder coat?
Ceramic Coat?
UHT Paint?
Also any suggestions of good places to use around Sydney area.
Thanx in advance.

ceramic coat
cost? shitloads around 100-150 for a set of extractors
hows it go? reduced under-bonnet temps significantly also reduces bling factor from cops (ie its black, only black)

how shitty?? to be honest i'd only bother with HPC coating for a set of new pipes, so the inside is coated as well... just coating the outside is less than half as good.
aiui, it's not the best idea to coat if they have started corroding already.

powder coat is usually a polymer? UHT paint will flake off with the vibration and temp (my extractors flaked off for the first 3 feet... but they do get a workout) paint will do nothing for temp, but might temporarily make them look better...

if you really like the design, save up a few $$ and get it replica'd, and then get them HPC'd....

failing that, maybe stick some 'thermal wrap' on them in the meantime.. until they corrode thru, and then get them copied... for $90, i wouldn't be too worried how long they lasted. think of it as an investment in the design which you can use later Very Happy
