Hiya,
Looking at 3 MR2s on Saturday One of them needs its wheel bearings replaced, what kind of costs am I looking at here? $300 or so? Also what problems are worn wheel bearings going to cause? Noises whie driving, poor control?
Thanks

i did mine a whiel ago, do a search for wheel bearings for AE86 or something,
i got quoted 200 bucks a side (front) 100 bucks parts, 100 bucks labor.
i bought bearings, cones/races and grease seals for about 24 bucks a side, changed the bad side in an afternoon, anyone who knows a bit about working on cars should be able to do it.
i would have to assume that they would cost somewhere around this much for an MR2 also.
i didnt really notice it much driving, the rest of my suspension is loosish anyway, but you could rock the wheel and it was quite noticably bad.
the bad thing that will happen is that it can seize up and cause your car to do a one wheel handbrake turn.

I would change them for you for a 6 pack but that would be ripping you off. They aren't that expensive, and if you have half a clue then your pretty much there. Just get a manual if you aren't sure. If that's the only thing wrong with the car compared to the other two then it's not an issue.

It's a 5 minute job each side.
Rear wheel bearings are a little harder depending on the car.

Not only is the labour easy if you know what you're doing, the parts needn't cost anything like that much either... Someone's making a profit somewhere!

Rears might be a bit tricky, but if they're slugging you $100 for fronts, gracefully walk away. It's a 30 minute job, and wheel bearings don't cost $100. You might expect something like $60-70.

Yep, if it is the rears, it is much like the hassle of those that are changing to 5 stud in the Mk2 Supra.
The stubs are captive in the hub and it takes quite a bit more work.
That said, the parts shouldn't much more than the fronts (try a CBC bearing shop), but depending on skill levels, it may be a shop job.
Cheers

i can tell you that the rear wheel braings on an mr2 are quite expensive, and difficult to fit.
they are a dual-rollere (cross roller way is the correct term) bearing. not like the front bearings at all.
