AE86 coil over question
|

Im not sure of the brand but ive been offered coil overs for a ae86 and i need to know if they fit straight in or are adjustments needed.
I have a funny feeling that the fronts will fit but what about on the back where they attach to the diff, do they fit the aus spec single spinner diff with out to much hassle.
Any help is always appreciated.

im not exactly sure as to fittiment but in regards to coilovers on the rear you'll find 2 seating positions one for the springs and other for the shock...because the coilover basically combines the two you only need fit it in the one seat. The 'housing', or whatever its called, around the seating is only in place with 3 bolts..because only the one seat is bearing the impact it can really stress out that area of the car. thats my understanding of it but i could be wrong...

i believe that the standard diffmount is fine for any diff
think about it
remove the spring, ok
fit the coilover, which is really just a strut with a spring around it and a few other spiffy height adjustment bits, into the standard mount int the top of the rear strut housing
now you may want to stabilise/reweld the top of the strut tower because now it has the spring's force exerted on it aswell.
just my thoughts
also, heres a pic of my diff and its standard mounts with the gab shock on it to give you an isea of a lsd diff

Seems more complicated the more i think about it. Are my eyes funny or are your shocks adjustable.

Japanese do produce coil over for the rear on 86. They r not cheap...about the same price a pair of front adjustable shocks...pricing range from 2500 to 3500 (only the rear adjust shock + including shipping) depending on which brand(shop) u want. Some of them come with so call adjustable camber top mount as well. For money wise, standard setup is enough for everyday, up-down hill, circuit use.

ae86drift,
No offence but thats depends on application, and what u looking for 2, Japanese does produce some really high end stuff. The price is rough estimate including shipping anyway (my opinion is never under estimate the cost to give fault image) . Plus I also mention this is not necessary depend on the use.

the rears do fit the aus diff, you just need to strengthen the strut mount, in my car i fully seam welded it as well as tying it in to the roll cage. Any good panel beater should be able to weld it for you

actually, that is for AE86. Techno Toy Tuning, (Gabriel in particular) have they're own product line specifically for the AE86. If you click the 'back' link on that screen, you'll see it reverts back to an AE86 page, where there is a shiteload of stuff you can buy...also, check out club4ag, where Gabriel bases himself from, and you'll see that indeed, this is all AE86 stuff.
cheers

indeed
i understand ae8620v and no offence intended or taken
coilovers are really not that expensive to do, sure you can get the high end cusco/tein kits, but really theres not much point unless your racing it or planning to change the parts every 10000 k's
gabriel does specifically toyota parts, mostly ae86 bits, and his prices are awesome
the most you should need for a rear coilover conversion is as much you would require as front coilover conversion: around $2000.
you can installl em yourself, its too easy. if you dont install them yourself, add 300 for someone to do it.
