OT: Gateway Laptop Tue, 13 August 2002 01:41 Go to next message
ok, a friend recently bought a gateway solo laptop, fairly decent to, now since it didn't come with any software, and some funky windows install, i had to wipe it, but now the touchmouse isn't working, neither is the infared port, and there is an unidentifed media device which i have no idea about (sound card is there though?)....

anyone have any experience working with these things, because it's a gateway laptop i get the feeling that there is alot of specialised drivers for stuff, and i can't find them anywhere....
and gateway australia no longer exists....

thanx c-ya,

we used to have gateways here at work... we now have dells......

gateway au closed it's doors - gatway stil exists in the rest of the world, so getting hold of drivers should not be a problem - use the power of the web! (search engine)

There is a good chance that the os (operating system) u installed is not up to date with the touch mouse drivers or infra ports. They will have a sound card inbuild but not doesn't mean that it is the unknown device, it could be the video cars or moderm or network card. Best bet is to have a look at what came with the pc then go to controll panel, system, device manager and have a look what is there, The one that isn't there is the one that u will need to download drivers for. For the mouse pad i would say have a look at the homepage for gateway.

That all i can suggest

ok, it's solo 9150, with alot of goodies, 10/100 network, built in modem, DVD all that sort of thing...

i'm running windows me (it's all i have)

i think i found what the unknown media device was, i changed the driver to be the infared port, and it seems to have worked out.... but it's might just be nullifying it, can't really test the IR port...

so far i havn't had any luck with drivers on the net, hell, gateway didn't even have instructions on how to wipe the bios on there web page.....

i'll keep looking...

edit:
dylusion: if you could get him to email the drivers off it, that would be great!! unless you are in brissy? thanx man...

thanx

I'm working on a full software re-load on a Gateway desk top PC as we speak. I bought a Gateway Solo 2500 laptop for my brother last year. I reformated the HD and found all the required devise drivers ie. sound, grapics and touchpad etc at www.gateway.com.au I sourced the internal modem driver from the manufacturer and she ran sweet using WIN98 until the dickhead dropped it and smashed the screen. It all went too easy, you'll work it out!
