I think the only choices you have are the 3S-GE or a 2T/2T hybrid. I think I know what I would go for

Hmm - was thinking the same..
but I was hoping to maybe go for something different?
Maybe a 1g in the ra28.. but I don't know how much power I can expect from the NA version.
20v in a ta22?

I dont the 20v is worth the effort. For the TA22 the first choice for a hipo engine would be the 3S and then the 2T/3T hybrid. It has been argued on here a few times about the hybrid being a better engine to extract power from compared to the 4A.

Its hard to say witho out knowing what Gen 3S you are going to go with. If you had the cash, the beams would be the best place to start. For info on this engine see Bill Sherwood's page: http://www.billzilla.org

Wicked - will do.
I'll go do some research on the 3S then..
Don't get me wrong, I love boosted motors, but just thinking something different..

Yeah if I was to do another conversion in a TA22 I would do an N/A 3S.

after doing my 4AGE (actually still doing) into my TA22 i'd do a 2T/3T hybrid.
remembering the 4AGE is a straightforward conversion into the TA22 too!

Should have mentioned in my initial post-
I've had 2 ta22 3tgte .. and a 1ggze st141- hence the reason I am looking for NA power again (maybe) ..
I'd not do a 3t (without the turbo) - was thinking of some more "new tech" ideas..

the 1G-GE i would only do in the RA-2*, the TA22 has too short a nose and thus the forward wieght of the longer 6 cyl motor would affect the fwd-rear weight distribution too much.
Personally i think the 4A-GE into TA22 is a good idea. These motors are tiny, light as hell and easy/cheap to procure. Parts are also abundant and cheap. They are virtually a bolt in procedure with your TA22 minus the engine mounts, since they also use a T50 g'box in RWD format.
I have only 4-5 months ago put a 100kW 4A-GE into my AE71, and it screams like hell, and goes fast too. I still have a 3.9:1 diff ratio in there too, so with a 4.1:1 centre like in a TA22 it would be even better!

i know my current 20v has approx 180hp at wheels, which isn't to bad for a 1.6 it cost a bit though and you have to rev it quite high which is to good if you need it to be super reliable, the jap spec 3S is suppose to be quite good i want to get one and fiddle with it a bit

i dont know how many times i've heard people quote chassis dyno results as "real world" power figures for their motor.
A chassis dyno is a TUNING TOOL. If you want an accurate representation of a motor's power output, put it on an engine dyno. Its not uncommon for chassis dyno results from the same car to vary up to 30kW or more.
Just for those interested, here are the result of an ENGINE DYNO test for both the blacktop and silvertop 20V by a very reputable engine workshop.
Quote: | Silver top 138HP at flywheel @ 7800 RPM
Blacktop 144HP at Flywheel from 7800 to 8500 RPM

180hp at the steering wheel perhaps?
But back on topic mid this year i am probably going to lookinto building up a decent 18rg its easy bolts straight in (ra28) and looks 'classic'. for a ta22 id definatly look at the hybrid 2tg/3t.
but i susgest something WITHOUT a timing chain god i hate those things!!!

I'd definately go a 4A of some sort.
For NA, you really cant beat the 4AGE or the 20V version. They scream! Light, revvy, and super cheap cheap!
ok I might be in the midst of a love affair with this engine series (i have 3)
