1JZGTE serpentine belt question Tue, 13 August 2002 07:39 Go to next message
Hello, I am here in the USA and finishing up my 1JZ swap in a MA70. I installed a new 2JZ power steering pump/pulley, and have the OEM elec fan setup (1JZ was from JZX90 chassis). I was told the 2JZGTE belt should fit, but it doesn't. Does anyone know which belt I should be using? Thanks for the info.

The belts are measured in metric unit's, you yanks would not understand!! Laughing

Compress the tensioner and use a seamstress's tape to measure the length of the belt. If it comes out say 1710mm or 1.71m, go to a car parts supplier an ask for a 6PK 1710.

The 6PK bit is the ammount of ribs.

just after any tips on replacing the 1jz serpentine belt, went to toyota and got the factory belt which is 1940mm im probly atleast 10mm off getting the belt over all pulleys with the tensioner losened all the way. yes i could go back to toyota and ask for a longer belt but its off the car atm and toyota is shut... Wink

can the 1jz alternator be losened or another pump to make up that 10mm to get the belt on?

also what size belts have people purchased to fit over all accessories?

I've done mine recently and I actually work at an auto parts store. For the 1JZ from memory we list a 6PK1930 which is what I used and didn't have a problem. Smile

the pulleys have got to be different between cars, i got a soarer belt which was 1940 and was too short on my chaser 1jz with all accessories. According to toyota the chaser belt is 1970 and a jza70 is 1955 Rolling Eyes

oh and my old belt measured out to be 1985 but has heaps of cracks in it so i ordered a 1980 belt

The water pump pulley is different between engines fitted with normal vs hydraulic water pumps Smile

I was under them impression that the size difference was little, and that the same serpentine belt could be used regardless however...perhaps this is wrong?

well i tried a soarer 1jz belt (1940mm) and with the tensiner all the way off i was still short fitting the belt by atleast 10mm

looking at toyotas listing today the part numbers are different between the models, epc says the same thing
