yep, when mine hits empty i usually have about 10-15 litres left in the tank.so usually have about 120 -150 kms left int he thing. But it is using petrol alot more than it used to.Try changing your fuel filter, that will probably help a help. Also make sure there are no air leaks aand exhaust leaks-this will cause it to run rich and thus use more fuel.

woohoo..its up! okay..
this graph is not a power run but only a tune to 6000rpm, hence the kmph is only until 135
notice the slight dip at about 100kmph, thats the TVIS being activated, and really, should be activated before it started to dip, but that cant be controlled so I'll have to live with it unless I remove it altogether
the power increases again after this and really, quite constant throughout the run
the dip at the end is when the throttle is off, this is due to the oil blow-back explained earlier hence tuner stopped as soon as smok appeared
the last 1000rpm (6000-7000rpm) weren't tuned as well as could/should, but runs slightly rich for safety reasons
the torque graph is interesting, especially in the beginning with such an increase, otherwise, bar the dip from TVIS, it remains relatively flat.
the timing is funny! while many of the tuners car could run in the high 20 degrees's or early 30 degrees, mine was still conservative at 22 degrees (i think) he noticed pinging anymore than this, i DO run premium! hmmmm
Pod filter made a total of 4kw difference and has 2 cold air ducts, wlthough not enclosed or sealed (future mod)
personal experience: i havent had a chance to drive it much coz i only got it back yesterday and after a wash, only managed to get it to work and back. the 'back' trip was far more interesting its raining at the moment so i wont tempt the hills, which was my original plan!
the car seems to rev A LOT quicker. it doesnt seem to have more power or more torque but obviously it does so it must be just me. it really isnt hard to redline and again, revs very freely so i suppose thats good.
the induction noise is crazy (wwhhhsszzzzz), the acceleration noise from engine and exhaust is noticably lumpier but sounds fantastic, and the idle now sits at 1000-1100rpm!
down side: high idle!! and cold start needs a little more fine tuning. other than that, computer holds no problem at all and i was very happy with instal and tuning. again, i wish i could break the enviable tonne, but like i said, a similarly modified MR2 managed the same result and the readings are not 'final' and remain 'unadjusted'
to give an example of what i mean when i say unadjusted, a Skyline registered 180kw at this dyno, but owner/driver wasnt happy so brought it to another dyno workshop and happily registered around 250kw. THIS IS A HUGE JUMP and this particular workshop has been known to exagerate numbers. so again, I wont abuse your intelligence and bring my car there just so i can boast more than 100kw's from the dyno sheet.
if I can be of any help to anyone looking for ecu mods. dont hesitate to pm or email me
cheers
Jon

Berad,
I'm just wondering about Filling my rear engine mount with Polyurathane...
It has this terrible knock when u lift off your foot off the accelerator... Well yeah the knock shudders a bit.. Like it doesn't knock once but feels like the vibrations continue more than one movement...
How do the engine mounts respond with the filling?

fill it til it clicks, add a tad more, reset trip meter.. then drive it til it gets lowish. fill it again to the click+a bit, divide it thru and work out how hard i have been drivin it lately
but i gots an FE so i get shitloads better economy than u guys

Anyone changed a gearbox before? I need to swap mine over, but dont know if I can be arsed... might pay someone to do it instead. I've been told its pretty easy, just leave the motor hanging on the RHS mount and drop the g.box off.

You also need to support the engine from the top as you undo the left mount to drop the box.Its pretty easy when its on a hoist but if you're crawling around its just a pain.If you can gt it 2 feet on stands you'll be set. If u can drop the engine in and out Andy that will be easier. I thought u got a 204 box with the new engine? Is that stuffed already?

yeah, gearbox is easy to change and the engine can where it is. just wondering if anyone here has done a swap with a MR2 gearbox. i hear they're good coz they have LSD in it or something? or have a special fluid to help with traction?
I've also fitted my car with a 1kg fire extinguisher, it's located in-front and under the passenger seat!

hey jonchai give us a piccie of the extinguisher! I am trying to figure out where I should mount mine.. for the past 3 years it has been rolling around under the drivers seat lol!
Gearbox removal is pretty easy as far as g-box removals go! The hardest thing for me was getting the driveshafts in and out.
Dont' leave the engine hanging I don't reckon.. just put a jack and a block of wood under the sump and lower it as you need.
The gearbox (stock) isn't tooooo heavy.

berad wrote on Mon, 04 July 2005 15:09 | dingaling i know its to low.. but bigggg turbo and that compression fun whilst the engine lasts lol
|
this has nothing to do with the compression you hear - this is ring compression, not static compression ratio - ur mixing the two up - please dont go giving ppl advice like this man cos itll fuck someone up and theyll say "but so and so said...."
the cylinder compression as tested by a compression gauge measures the amount of pressure remaining in your combustion chamber during compression stroke - it not directly related to your compression ratio (in fact there is only a slight relation which is complex to explain so i wont bother here)
compression ratio, static compression ratio, is what is generally referred to as compression in a performance context
in fact id go the complete opposite and say if ur car has such low cylinder compression in n/a form, dont even try bolting a turbo on - reason is two fold:
1. the low\lowish reading indicates oil is seeping past ur rings and into ur combustion chamber (blow by), which in effect will mean the oil will 'dirty' the fuel mixture for want of a better word, effectively reducing its intrinsic value and reducing the RON rating, thus leading to pinging or detonation
2. the problem will get worse with the extra load of a turbo into the lubrication system, meaning blow by will get worse over time and on a diminishing scale, and the ring compression will deteriorate.
not having a dig at you berad but i just felt i had to clear this up for ppl
cheers
Mick

OK i know this has been covered plenty of times, but i just need some clarifications on the 3s gte conversion in the st162
is a aftermarket ecu or the ecu of the gte engine necessary???
Is the conversion a straight bolt in, that wont cost me a fortune???
are custome mounts needed? Cross member clearance???
Will the old gearbox survive off the gen 1 3sge or will i have to get the gearbox with the engine???
Now as actually getting a 3sgte, would it be easiest to get a st165 FRONT CUT and just swap it all in, or as i am keen on performance here, will the 185 or 184 2nd gen gt4 off the celica be a better fit than the mr2 turbo???
Sorry for the millions of questions, but i know the gt2 converted ppl will see this on this thread thanks in advance!
Also anyone in adelaide know where i could get this done (workshops) at a reasonable price??? (under 3000 i hope)

Has anyone had the problem where you drive at about 3k rpm you here this tiny ticking, and then kinda goes away after? not sure what it is, in neutral it doesn't happen, but when driving in either 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear its noticeable? could it be a drive shaft or gear box problem?

Ey all,
An update on my hunting problem... Sorry about the terminology I’m still learning
I was convinced that it was still a throttle body problem, I was told by a friend (and someone on toymods) that the problem could be air in the part of the throttle body that the water hoses connect to.
I removed the water hoses going to and from the throttle body, checked all the vacuum hoses (again) and adjusted the throttle stop screw, cleaned the throttle body. I put it all back together.
Kicked the car over, and it was worse than ever, I expected this, because if the problem was air in the throttle body there would now be lots of air in there.
I decided to start the car with the radiator cap off, and let it heat up (as you would when you change the coolant) when the thermostat opened the water level dropped, I filled it up, and put the cap on. I let the car cool down overnight and in the morning to my surprise when I started it, the hunting symptoms occurred once, then never again.
Now every time I start the car, all I get is the initial "rev up" then it does one "hunt" then its perfect.
I'm thinking there maybe still a tiny bit of air in there, or possibly this was just a fluke What do you think?
Cheers fellas
