Just watching it now.
More E46 318ti's for me to fix at work
Well maybe not , but seeing the bits of damage being inflicted is making me cringe.

What a classic race...
And if I was in the race, I would've done the same as Samuel, thrashed the shit out of the car, had fun at all expenses and wouldn't give a s**t about the car...

BTW: from now on you will call him tardy, its been a nickname years in the making, don't let him shake it!

Haha glen , I'll stick it too him on monday.
And the 318ti is simply a 318 compact , the t means compact.
So it is still a 2.0L inline 4 with varible valve timing making about 100kwrw.
The 316ti however only came in compact form and is basically a 1.8L poverty pack version of the 318ti. You can also get 325ti's with 2.5L inline 6 engines with variable cam timing ( VANOS ).

Merrick started in 16th position and ended up coming 10th , then havingt the person before him disqualified from something or other.
So he came 9th.

Exactly as viagra_cressida said, its prolly at the Flywheel. I've never seen a spec sheet with the claimed KW at the wheels.

Yeah i don't doubt it has 105kw...but it wouldn't be at the wheels. There is a big difference (30% I heard) loss through the driveline. WRX's/ 200SX's only have about 105kwif that and i'm sure a WRX/ 200SX would pull the panties down on a 318Ti

No all power claimed is ATW , hence the term break horse power.
You need to remember that the curb weight of a 318TI is 1320 , then fill it with crap and two average sized people and it tips 1480 - 1500.
It's quite heavy for a small car , so of course it isnt gonig to break and land speed records.
Some other power figures for BMW E46's off my head are :
325 - 141rwkw
330 - 170rwkw
M3 - 252rwkw

Brake horse power is not necessarily the horse power at the wheels. Brake horse power is the power quoted after the friction forces within the engine etc are taken into account. Another way to think of is is the power that is actually usable ie there may be 15% more of actually horsepower produced by the engine but taken up by friction.

I read a Zoom magazine once that tested a new SS 225kw Commodore. They put it on the dyno and it pulled 136kw at the wheels. I will put $1000 on that a BMW 318Ti doesn't have 105kw at the wheels. I'll put more than $1000 on.

There is nothing to find out, all that power quoted there is at the crank. Just the same as any other manufacturer...

Absolutely correct. It is the DIN/ISO/whatever standard. It applies to all manufacturers.
Now, how accurate their measurements are is another matter .....
