well it all depends if the "synchromesh" is different. each forward gear has one, and if they are identical, then yes you can swap them. check on the toyota part numbers fro the mesh.. if it's only 1 part number. all good.
as for hard? not for me. are you comfortable completely disassembling your gearbox AND putting it back together again?
you WILL need a diagram for it (any of the yellow books from T50'd cars) and a few tools (like external circlip pliers)...
and lots of patience.
a large flat area with a clean surface (or an old light coloured sheet) will help immensely.
good luck.
hmm, from my yellow book, 1st and 2nd have "synchroniser ring no.1", 3rd and 4th have "synchroniser ring no.2" (which look larger), and 5th looks like it has "synchroniser ring no.1" as well... maybe it is possible?

thanks alot this ia a big help, i gues you have to do a complet diasemmble of the box to change the sincros hey.
and the reason why im consiedering puttin another box in is when im in nutral (probly whehn in gear also i get a weird knocking noise when i take my foot of the clutch, then i will put foot on clutch again the back of and it wont do it, same thing in opposite order, there is oil dripping down the side of the bellhousing which doesnt smell like g box oil but i thik it is my mainseal leaking.
any suggestions what thsi could be

Well, you can't do it through the gearbox lubricant filler cap... =/
Surely a replacement T50 wouldn't be expensive?
