G'day guys, i was just wonderin what kinda speeds u guys can hit in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears???
only had my P's for like a week, so havent had time to experiment much? in 2nd gear ive hit 100kmh with 4 people in car, on a slight hill.
the only thing ive put to shame so far is a 1996 1.5 daewoo ciello, hahahaha. my ride is completely stock (engine wise).

1st - 55
2nd - 90-95 (need new diff ratio to get that 0-100 time down to 1 change)
dont know the rest, but 5th can dish out more than 220km/hr

A car I used to own ..
(a commodore - they're not all bad!!)
.. 4 speed gearbox with 3.08:1 borg warner diff.. (6 cyl motor)
15" wheels with 60 series profile tyres ( i think )
almost 70 k's in first (at 8500 rpm)
just under 140 k's in second (8500 rpm)
got over 190 in third a couple of times (was not watching tacho by this point)
and don't know what it was in 4th as the speedo was well and truly over by this stage! .. but around 220, hmm..
It could go from 70 (in second) to almost 140 (in second still) soo so quickly.

I think you would be lucky to hit 90 in a 4AC in second, i can get between 90 and 100 in second in my AE82 hatch bigport (which came from an 86 twin cam version of your car). Though i havent had the engine tuned since its put in i dont think it will make that much a difference. I know with 4 people in the car i wouldnt be able to get that much.

mines easy to read
1st: 40
2nd: 80
3rd: 120
4th: 160
(40km/h per gear)
Haven't gone any further and by this result I would take a guess that 200km/h will be see me a rev limiter in 5th gear.

Ok lets see....
1st: ~60
2nd: ~125
3rd/4th: dunno, but I'd say either speed and/or rev limiter. I havn't had any desire to test the upper limits of my car above 160 yet.

yeah, i was full stoked i got anywhere near 90 honestly. couldnt believe it either. must have been a really good cold night or something. i know i can hit 80kmhr without to much stress in second, but i get worried if i push it anymore than that in second!!! that was a once off for sure!!!
GO THE 4AC!!!!
i wana hear from someone who has a 20v 4age in an ae82!!! would be great!!!
byt the way, is the twincam AE82 really that much quicker than my shitty ol 4AC?? 4AC = 57kw, 4age = 88kw, cause im considering switching to a 4age twincam, or doing an engine swap for a 100kw 4AGE into my rolla, or even the 20v if money permits itself.

Guys, I haven't a clue about speeds in anything but top, but last week I drove my 1JZ powered car to 204 MPH (326K) at the DLRA Speedweek in South Aus. This was at 7600 RPM, for 3 and a half miles at this speed, plus 2 miles wind up. We ran this about 8 times, and probably ran 190 MPH about 12 times before we remembered to turn the rev limeter off. The motor is a $440 second hand one from EKW, with 440cc injectors and a TO4. It runs two Soarer intercoolers welded together. By the way, this is a class record, and I believe the fastest 6 cylinder in the land.

Got no idea what my car will do at 5200 redline as after 4000rpm it would take about a year to get there.
1st - 15km/h
2nd - 45km/h
3rd - 110km/h
4th - 140km/h
5th - guessing 185km/h (speedo stops at 180)
Not bad for a turbo diesel!!
140 to 185 takes about 4km!
Also freaks people out why I'm in 3rd gear on the other side of an intersection when I'm pushing it hard.

1st - 40
2nd - 75*
3rd - 115*
4th - i didnt look
5th - 165*
*(give or take a few km's)
speedo was probably out coz i had larger profile tyres than standard and a road test from back in the day claimed top speed at 160kmh
not gonna try in my celica yet coz its got an auto box at the moment and i'll wait to test it at a track day once all the works finished.

VH commodore with 202 - Very worked!
Stage 5 head with port work - 4mm oversize 350 chev stainless valves, triple angle valve seats, roller rockers, 48/80 cam with 275' duration, fully balanced and blueprinted motor, rods shotpeend and polished, some kind of very expensive pistons, 650 holley (matched to cam) - vacuum secondaries, m21 gearbox (5 or 6 of them), deck was blocked and o-ringed, 11:1 compression (yes!) dry sump, etc etc etc etc etc - yes, it had a LOT of work done on it, and went REAL hard. I sold it cause I was too young (at that time), and it got up to stupid speed so quickly! Went even harder with triple webbers on it, but it was just to much to tune (so that it would stop spitting fuel out the exhaust) ..

The metal is willing, the rubber is weak. Still got retreads (rated to 140) on the rear. Will let you know once the new bridgestones are on.
Have pulled 170km/h in 5th with a LONG way to go on the tacho.

But in the end, its not how fast your car can go and how long it last's. Many cars can do the 100 in first. If it last's very long afterwards is another subject alltogather. lol.

My point being, no mater how good you build your moter up it all depends on many things. Example:
I bet you that you can't get the new 5.7L Gen III going quicker and faster and all than the old 308. Point being one is made from cast Iron and the other Alloy, as we all know Iron is stronger. .
Why do you think the OLDER toyota's go so well... i also would say that a corolla built from 1970 - 1980 ( i said 1970 because i dont know b4 then) would outlast a 80 to 2004 model toyota.
Then again why would you spend $3500 grand on a moter than your just going to rev the freegin hell out of. lol. Sounds silly to me. If you had some sense you would know the torque range is 1500 - 3800rpm. After that is more noise than actual go.
All im really saying is that you would of want of done a good job if you want to moter to stand up to it. I.E $300 spark plugs and get the moter blueprinted, stronger nuts/bolts throughout.
Cheers Daniel.

hmmm.. lets see.. my regular ride now is a car called "Impact Black" (1993 Toyota Supra TT) 3L...
and if i remember rightly...
1st - 85kph
2nd - 160kph
3rd - 200kph
4th - 250kph
5th - Fuck knows, its off my scale...
6th - ... yea.. i know this one cause i didnt know 5th right? O.o
i have to admit though, we've never maxxed 6th gear out.
can't get enough road to allow for stopping... i know we can hit it.. its just the stopping bit that wouldnt happen... if i had a clean road along the Causeway, i could max it out.
but anyhow.. thats the full thrash of each gear on that car, scares the shit outta me once i dont know what speed im pulling though.. lol.. no idea how long it will take to stop the car.
and those who know Supras, know they arent light cars, they dont like to be told to stop fast.
Peace
Katsu

It could go from 70 (in second) to almost 140 (in second still) soo so quickly.

Man 8500 RPM 6 cylinder Commodore - that's impressive to say the very least.
I think that the old Corolla does just over 100 in second - and freaking fast in 4th and 5th (it will 7500 in 4th in an eyeblink). I have seen well in excess of 200 (of course this was at a track).

.. 4 speed gearbox with 3.08:1 borg warner diff.. (6 cyl motor)
15" wheels with 60 series profile tyres ( i think )
almost 70 k's in first (at 8500 rpm)
just under 140 k's in second (8500 rpm)

I am not trying to dispute this claim - 48/80 cam = 308 deg duration not 275.

Yello rolla -
Seems I'm a bit rusty, although I didn't think it was 308 degrees - It was an Ivan Tige custom cam.. It was damn lumpy, I can tell you that.. and yes, no-one believed me how it went till I took them for a ride in it!
It was a serious motor, built by someone that really knew their stuff! Apparently (and I can believe this) the motor was in an LC torana with triple carbs and ran into the 12's..
And whoever said it is just noise above 3800 - you need a ride in a high revving car! (ie: you can feel the power increasing, the cam had only just started working by that stage!) ..
