Im trying to get the 4m tuned and its got a wicked miss the carbie guy said its the dizzy ...so
I am wanting to fit 5m-e electronic ignition on the 4m (carbie)
so i rang a wrekcers to find out if they had any, they did but the guys like what do you want it for i told him why he said nah you cant do that you need the ECU to run it i think not so can someone tell me what is involved? i heard its just a strait swap.
ps. i said how much he said $300 for distiruter coil and ignitor is that good?
This is dead easy to do the job.
Get the 5M dist and plate (goes under dist) bolt the plate to the block once you have removed the old dist.Fit the elec dist and bolt that to the plate.
Then undo your old coil and put it aside (make sure you remember which wire went where) and install 5M coil and igniter.Hook up the wires to where they need to go and plug the dist into the coil.
Everthing being done right it should fire into life no worries,i have done this to the early 4M motor so a late one should be a breeze.
As for the price it sounds a bit over the top to me as they are not something you would sell at the wreckers cause the bloody things never stuff up.

What MJH said. Just go to the wreckers and get a 5ME dizzy, coil and igniter. No need for ECU as the 5ME ECU was fuel only. Should cost no more than $100.
Don't know about the crane units as i've never used them.
GT is right about the price $100-$110 tops for everything.Anymore and your being ripped off.Used to buy the wrecks for $100 when i was working at the wreckers.
