icon4.gif  GT4 ST162 with ST185 3sgte... how to convert digital speedo? Wed, 10 March 2004 09:22 Go to next message
Hey guys i'm just about to buy a ST162 GT4 with a gen 2 3sgte out of a ST185 in it.
I've been told by the owner that the speedo doesnt work because the 185 has a digital dash and the 162 doesnt. He tells me that there is a converter that i can by but i'm not sure if thats true.
So yeah can anyone help i'm sure this conversion has been done many times before so what have people dont to overcome this problem?

Thanks Heaps

ben

Or do you mean a digital signal from the box to the dash, compared to the older cable from the box to the dash?

Cheers.

some boxes have a cable driven speedo

some have an electronic speedo

sorry i dont know which is for which model

if the dash has an electronic speedo then u have to hook up and electronic speedo sensor on the gbox

it has 3 wires

12v earth and the signal to the dash

then the signal from the dash has to get to the ecu aswell

Hey guys well it's good to see that some of you have more of an idea then i do. I guess the guy could have meant then it's an electronic speedo gearbox but the dash is cable.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Ben

Yeah thats exactly it the ST185 gearbox has an electrical connection on it while the original ST16* box has a cable connection, to get this running by cable connection you can unscrew the electrical connector off the top of the gearbox and you can screw a cable into where you pull the conector out, Trust me I know this I just urgraded my gearbox from an ST165 (cable connection) to an ST185 (electric connection) but i had to used the cable driven because of my cable driven speddometer.
