Hi, installed a fuel regulator yesterday, got it set about 40 psi ?? or is it Bar ???...hmm..must checked that again.
Now i noticed at 2nd gear my 1g-gte kinda 'detonates' or is making poping sounds...not sure what it is, maybe be crank up the regulator ?? ...Plugs are NGK...standard...
The sounds come when i drag 2nd gear to about 4000-5000 rpm.
Any ideas what i'm doing wrong ??
cheers

Is this a rising-rate regulator or a normal one? Do you have the reference line hooked up to the manifold? What was the base pressure with the factory regulator?

from memory the stg 1gs run at 38psi, have you thought the mere fact that you are running a higher fuel pressure with a stock computer with the same boost stettings that the car might be overfueling. However this might be unrelated to your problem, had a mates car who did the same thing, then it started to get worse and worse till you could not even rev the car cause it kept popping, tis was the fuel pump, suggest you have that checked aswell.

Fuel pump is new. Should i increase boost ??
Advance the timing ?? Increase pressure ??

I would work on the above mentioned first.
To my limited knowledge the 1g's run rich from factory and 2psi more fuel pressure isnt helping.
If its a rising rate fuel pressure regulator then thats even worse.
Stick it on a dyno with a air/fuel ratio meter and let them tune it properly.

hhmmmmm.....was under the impression that to make good boost more fuel was added.
Well off to the dyno then...

yes, but the more fuel is added by the computer automatically as boost increases.

well, all you need is to make sure you have the RIGHT amount of fuel...
so is the regulator 1:1 rate? or rising rate? is it manifold pressure referenced??
what brand etc etc

no manifold pres ref.
brand. no idea. Not a popular one.
thanks

i hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but...
it CANNOT be rising rate if it is not manifold referenced...
the whole idea is that the fuel rail pressure id adjusted to keep the fuel pressure "across the injectors" at a certain level.
1:1 keeps it at the same pressure
rising rate increases pressure across injectors with boost.
the only way this is ever going to happen is if the regulator knows what ht pressure in the manifold is..
if you don't have a vac line going from manifold to fuel pressure regulator, as soon as you come on boost the pressure drop across injectors decreases, and the amount of fuel coming out decreases...
you need to work this out pretty quick ie don't drive it!

I agree; any type of fuel pressure regulator, whether rising rate or 1:1, needs a reference line to the manifold. This is even more critical on turbo cars where there is a large variation in manifold pressures. It's no wonder your engine isn't running right!

ahhmmmmm.....another silly question, vac line to intake or exhaust manifold. my vac line is currently from intake plenum to regulator. Would i also need to retune the CO ?
thanks so much

SOLVED I thinks !!!
Sat on it for a while. Checked vac line found that one of my tee had a vac line off. Put it back on, tweaked a bit on the Co2(is that what its called) and Presto.....
1st gear - 6000 rpm
2nd gear - 7000 rpm....etc .etc
Any feedback greatly appreciated.
