selecting pistons for a 3tg hybrid Thu, 11 March 2004 09:43 Go to next message
im considering doing a 3tg build with a bore job to 1950cc just wanted get a price on some pistons with around 10.5:1 compresion to 11:1 compression and just wondering if i should ask my local engine shop to look for 3t pistons.

do the 3t pistons also fit on the 3t gte rods.

Jason, all T rods are the same dimenstions, do a search.
2T crank and 2T pistons must be used together.
3T crank and 3T pistons must be used together.
This is because the additional throw of the 3T crank is accommodated by a shorter gudgeon pin-to-crown height in the 3T piston.

I guess you could use 3T pistons on 2T crank but you'd have very low static compression.
2T pistons on 3T crank will extend beyond deck height, this is why re-flycut 3T-C pistons are commonly used instead of just factory 2T-G pistons (which are too tall).

Wiseco sells 10.5:1 3T-C pistons off the shelf.
They will clear the 2T-G valves just fine.
and with the 2T-G head they come out closer to 10.8:1
1941cc with 89mm bore.
Venolia has the specs for both 2T-G and 3T-C also. but they are more $ then the wiseco's. better quality imho also. Smile

18 R Pistons fit 2T Conrods and they take your bore out to 88.5mm However depending on type Compression may be awkward to calculate.
