Clutch Screeching Wed, 14 August 2002 09:54 Go to next message
Hi guys

Clutch on my sprinter makes a screeching sound when pressed. Any ideas on what is causing this ? Could it be the thrust bearing ?

i guess old clutch. I have fitted 14 volks over the stock 13s and now the rpm surges from 3 to 4k, slipping like hell, id like to fit in a heavy duty clutch, how much these go for ?. im not really confident in DIY mechanic but im eager to learn Smile.

can usually get stock spec clutches beefed up with around 30-40% increse in clamping pressure for not much at all. i have been quoted about $160 trade for this exact setup for a beefed up stock spec Sprinter clutch.

You will probably get the clutch release bearing with the clutch disk and pressure plate as a kit,not sure bout the spigot bearing
just go to a clutch specialist (some one who builds them) and ask to have the pressure plate upgraded, also ask what the original clamping pressure is
ive had a daikin pressure plate upgraded for me AE92 for 500lbs to 2200lbs

well i got it in NZ and for cost from a company called BNT ( not sure if thats a australian company or not ), anyway it cost me $360 for the 1 ton pressure plate + a brass button clutch plate + a release bearing. So it would have been less if i got an organic clutch plate
Retail i guess is probably around 30% more

no you dont usually get a spigot bearing with the clutch as it isnt usualy considered part o the clutch assembly. but it would be stupid not to replace it while you have the gearbox out
