AE86 rollcages?

just a few quick questions about ae86 rollcages (bolt in)...
* Is there a difference between hatch and coupe rollcages?
(most ae86 rollcages i see advertised don't specify)
* Are bolt-in types (with padding) generally legal for street use? Should i expect it to pass roadworthy test or not?
* What are some good ae86 bolt in rollcage makers?

It depends on how many point you want, be it pre made to 'bolt in'

Cages are only legal (in ACT anyways) if it's engineer'd and if its a 3\4 cage.

Don't know of any, try an parts importer, but there are pre made ones, a friend of mine has one in his trueno

* what price should i expect to pay for a fairly rigid (maybe 5-6 point) welded rollcage.
* what is a good place to get this done and engineered?

i just fitted a cusco cage today,m bolt in type, Has a main hoop, two braces, once for each wheel arch, and a cross over brace.
All bolted in perfectally, took me longer to look around the work shop for hightenstile nuts and boltsw then it did for the ctuall driling and install process!
works a bloody treat, chassis is so much stiffer

check with your local big brother about what is acceptable.. in NSW, they have pretty diagrams to measure cage clearance from soft people bits, BUT the cage doesn't even have to be bolted in! can just sit there....
go figure...
anyhoo, better to check first, than be busted later.
heh heh, i'f they'd let us wear helmets for street driving, clearance to cage wouldn't be such a prob heh heh

Check with Youngy, he just put a cage in his (welded in) and he is paranoid about it all being legal so he should know what you can or can't do in NSW.

thanks for all the replies guys.
Im still unsure whether a 3dr rollcage will fit in a 2dr body without cutting up the parcel shelf chassis. can anyone give me a definate answer?
Simon: where did you get your cusco rollcage? what type is it? 6p? did you get it new from a cusco dealer?

the ae86 chassis is the same regardless of coupe/hatch
all the ae86 cages i have seen are bolted just behind the front seat mount for the main hoop and onto the front side of the rear wheel arch each side for the "struts" and then between the struts for a cross brace

that roll cage is the same as mine, dont think that it will pass though, the drivers seat when adjusted back on its rails puts your head about 6 inches from the b-pillar posts, maybee you can rig your seat so that if you get it engineered, you can only move the seat back about 1 inch, im kinda short so this might work for me, but not all,
matty.

Most rollcages fit both 2 dr and 3 dr. Cusco, Stillway, TBO, and so on. Some made from steel and alloy. Prices varies with points. For a Cusco 6 point, about 1100+, u need to specify whether u have sunroof and whether it is going to be a 2 seater or 4 seater.
