Ok, i been driving my grandparents cressida lately (626 got problems )
Anyway only today its not staying in overdrive...
Going along the road at 90km/h overdrive is kicked in rpm around the 2.5k mark then it just jumps out and the engine is around 3krpm... not a real problem as such but hampers fuel economy on long trips If i press the over drive button out and back in it kicks in but not right away like it used too...
Is there a relay for the overdrive that may be stuffed ?
Because its got me puzzled
Car in question is a 1984 Cressida 5ME Auto

checked fluid level? causes all sorts of worries.. usually with car warm, engine running, and in park or neutral.

Check the fluid levels and if there is anymore trouble have a look at the Overdrive solenoid to see if it is functioning properly.
Another problem is the fluid in the box might be getting too hot
Get a gearbox specialist to have a look at it.

my 1G-GTE auto used to jump from 5th to 4th (yes 5 gear auto trans, 2 gears after the 3rd) gear intermitently..turned out that the brake swith at the foot padle needed adjustment...my brake light was flasing intermitently causing the trans to downshift to 4th gear. I adjusted the switch and the problem is now gone.
