Can you try pulling the wires of the switch and shorting them together to complete a circuit?
If brake lights work, switch is faulty.. If they don't then there's either a fuse gone or some other bad wiring i would imagine.
(Not sure if you're able to actually just disconnect the wires from the switch on your car or not.. Just a thought..)

Yeah just bridge your switch and see if they work. If not make sure the earth near the lights is clean as they can play games with ya. Apart form that check the fuse.

i tried a few things to get it to work, like new bulbs, poking the wires ect
the thing that alerted me to the real problem was that the same fuse was also for my horn, which hasnt been working for a few weeks now
IT WAS A BAD EARTH
