everyone on this site says 22re is not a race engine i think that is because not o alot of people know what they are talking about, my 22re is making approx 220-230fwhp where stock is about 115, the other day through this site i found out that a worked to the guts 2tg/3t hybrid can only make 199fwhp when built by a toyota professional
i am not a toyota professional but have achieved a massive increase in power so far, without supercharging, as they say its all about cubes mate

Yah, the 'torque'engines CAN be absolute beasts. E.g. misterbishi astron 2.6, rodeo 2600 - both these engines can really haul with a turbo, or with throttles, cams, headwork, comp, etc. etc. can make some balls N/A too. Oh, lets not forget turbo'ing a falcon! spools up a TO4 by 1500rpm... tyre smoke.....

I think it's quite correct to say the 22R is not a race engine. Just look at its power output, 115hp from 2.4 litres - that's pretty low! Sure if you heavily modify it you can get good power out of it, but the same applies to any engine.

maybe not a race engine in stock form but for once i would like to see acknownledgement of its potential, i mean look at mine i will have dyno sheets soon dude to prove all you naysayers
but im not out to bignote myself or the car just to offer my facts and opinions
i have spent about $1500 on mods so far norbie, i think that is a budget upgrade, of course you might say you can drop in a 1g-gte for that much if you do a lot of the work but then where is the comparison if you compared a 22re twin turbo im sure it is out in front (probably)

Dude, get off your soapbox for a minute. This thread is talking about stock 22R's, not your particular 22R. And like you say, a stock 22R is no race engine. They're fitted to HiAce vans FFS!

the thread WAS about stock 22re until allan said 22re is not race engine then i posted my opinion followed by your aggravated conversation !
i think if you have a problem with me or with what i say, this is not the place to sort it out, we are both in brisbane and are both (?) going to the next celica club meet...see you there

Can we lighten up here?
If you believe that the 22R-E is a "race engine" then good for you, just don't expect other people to believe you. But personal threats, even hinting at them, is not acceptible behaviour on these forums.

Reading this post remined me exactly why I left the Brisbane car mod scene 15 years ago. Infantile egomaniacs. Grow up and start enjoying your common ground - making Toyotas go faster.

i own a corona with a 22re and ill be the first to admit that in STOCK form its nothing to bragg about BUT it does have a greater potential than most for the simple fact of its shear capacity.
celicamad what mods did you do for 1500 that put up the hp so much i would like a bit more power without the hassle of hitting my pocket hard.
oh and guys its a discussion forum people are always going to have a different view about things than you so there is no need to get worked up over what someone else thinks

I heard somewhere that in the USA the 22R is a popular choice for performance mods...

It is popular among RA6x Celica owners, but that's mostly because they don't have much else easily available. 1G conversions are almost unheard of over there because you just can't get 'em (not for sensible prices anyway).

jimmyd...mate i just got caught up in the moment...i cant stand a smartass hiding behind a computer slinging insults...im over it now, and i know what you mean about the brisbane car scene !
nark....everytime i say something about 22re there is always norbie to have a "go" at me.....i.e. get off your soapbox, blah blah....im just pissed about his problem with me, whatever that is....enough said for me, thats my last word on it, im only going to ignore him altogether now, not worth getting booted off this forum !!
XTreme_Corona...have a look in the cars for sale section i put my car there just to see if there was any interest for it, as im wondering on a price to put insurance down to i think $7000 but if i was really going to sell it probably more like $5800-$6000
the twin throttle bodies idea is in the back of my mind still cant let go of it, may have to weld something together soon and then install the blower that will rock !...one of the throttle bodies will be for metho injection, and it will be staged to come on say 3000rpm....i can safely rev the car to 7500rpm before redline now i think stock is 5200 ??
cheers wayne

| Tank, Let me guess, looking for something to make your Hilux bit quicker, and eat less fuel? I did this back in '93, and I just sold all the gear a couple of weeks ago, and I know who too!! I was running a standard EFI manifold at first, and it easily rolled off 0-100Km within the 9.5-10 sec... comparable to a swift, which is all I wanted!! Then the next stage was much more then this, but someone had to ride my car off before I could get any real performance figures for that car, or fit the custom cam or a lot of other stuff!! see http://members.ozemail.com.au/~tazlk/photos.htm

apparently, if you chip the 22R-E it gets nice power gains, and massive improvements in fuel efficieny. which wouldn't be too hard, considering stock it puts out little HP (considering it's CC) and eats fuel like nothing else
