4AG-ZE in shhotout mode Tue, 16 March 2004 01:09 Go to next message
Has anyone ever has a ZE dyno'd in shootout mode?

I went to a dyno day on the weekend and was hoping for around 90-95kW, imagine my surprise when it reeled off 114.2..

As shootout mode is supposed to be comparible dyno-to-dyno, I was wondering if anyone else had tested a ZE on this mode for comparison.

FWIW, it's running a big pulley, but a boost leak was bringing it back down to around 10psi.

chassis dynos are a tuning tool. Its really not an accurate way to get a reading of what power you have at your wheels.

I have seen chassis dyno results vary by over 20kW ATW from different dyno places. A better and more accurate representation or comparison would be a quater mile and trap speed, which can then be used to calculate your ATW power.

although dynos are tuning tools, if they are set so that all the variables are the same between 2 dynos, and a temperature correction and maybe an altitude factor scaled in to the result, results between them should be similar, after all they are technically a piece of scientific equipment, just that most people that use them do so in their own specific way, not a constant throughout the dyno world, well this is my oppinion anyhoo....

My ZE tuned and I got a print-out. The guy said it was done in some special mode (probably "exaggeration mode").

Allegedly it pulled 110rwkw with 10psi, extractors, 2.5" exhaust and aftermarket management. I was expecting more like 90-100. So I am in the same situation you are and would like to check the accuracy of the dyno results.

Considering the engine makes, what, 123kW at the engine originally, you have a free-flowing exhaust with extractors, more boost and properly tuned, I'd be very surprised (or disappointed) if that didn't make 110kW at the wheels in the end. A stock S15 200SX with only 147kW at the engine will reliably put down around 110kW stock, I don't see there being any more driveline losses in your car.

THE WITZL - Shootout mode is supposed to equalise the data so you can directly compare between different dynos.

10sec_rx7 - http://upload.3sgtemr2.com/upload/dyno1.jpg here is the dyno printout, can you tell which version from that?

The car has a stock bottom end, some DIY head porting, a NEVO pulley, an ARC intercooler and extractors and 2 1/2" exhaust.

justcallmefrank - I think Henn and I are in the same situation, it's been very rare for any ZE to read over 100kW at the wheels (have a look at the Toymods dyno day resulte)...

Strange, it definately feels slower than it did with the old straight through system on there (it's now running a super turbo and a hotdog), but at least it's close to legal on noise now....

Perhaps the head work is coming into effect?

the gze need a hig flow exhuast to make good power, you put a bad restriced exhaust on there it will stop the power!

yours is still better than a few i have tuned.
