hey ppl,

I own a 1987 cs toyota corolla sedan and im making plans to get a 4agze transplant under the hood ive posted a few topics up about different things to do with the conversion and alot off ppl have said i will need an engineers certificate or somthing which supposbly costs around $1000, i asked my cuzin this and he thinks different that i shouldnt because its a straight conversion just wondering if i do or not? also i live in queensland just to let use know, also while im on the topic has any else thats done this conversion remember the cost of how much it will cost to be intalled by a mechanic cause i wouldnt be able to do it myself ill leave it to the proffessionals.
thanks to all

go and visit your local automotive engineer and ask him all the intricacies....

In QLD, you need to get a mod plate, which is essentially the same as an engineers cert.

The whole point is to ensure that your conversion is safe and legal. Cars have to be built to certain specifications from factory, and you also need to meet these requirements if modifying the vehicle.

A lot of them go 'by the by', particularly emissions/noise, but the big ones like competent installation work and suitable safety equipment (eg. you may not be able to get a certificate without a brake upgrade, depends on modifications, car, and the engineer you consult) are an essential.

This is what the certificate will cover. Driving your car without it is no doubt illegal and will also leave you uninsured (eg I did a 1GGTE conversion on a car, when getting a mod plate one engineer refused it without a brake upgrade and another gave the mod plate with no worries).
