Power FC with 1JZGTE Wed, 17 March 2004 03:35 Go to next message
Hey guys, I have the opportunity to buy a Power FC from a friend, which was meant to go on his Manual Soarer. Is this a better option then a Haltech?

Im currently putting a 1JZGTE into the IS200, but teh Motor is a soarer, but Auto. Will my friends power FC still plug up? or will I have to source a manual 1J ECU??? If I do, can it be from any 1J? i.e Chaser, Supra etc??

This is going to be my biggest problem, i can see!

If it was an auto 1JZGTE and loom from a Soarer, then it will connect and run fine with a manual 1JZGTE Soarer Power FC (assuming you interface the rest of the wiring loom correctly in the IS200) - tested the same scenario last night on a colleague's ex-auto Soarer.

I didnt think the power fc had an automatic transmission option?

I read that somewhere.

Thanks Manny, So in other words it should plug up, but considering my car isnt a soarer, will other accessories work?

A "piggyback" ECU is never going to be as good as a proper fully programmable ECU like a Haltech. The only advantage of the PowerFC is you get to keep the nice factory features like cold-start, idle control, and (importantly in your case) automatic transmission control.

I'd be pretty surprised if the climate control was run by the engine management system!

hehehe, Your too smart Norb. I hope it isnt! I heard, fromm Deesonet, that the IS200 has 6 computers, so hopefully that will be ok. I think Im going to stick with the E6X

Norbie, the Power FC isn't a piggyback...

Norbie: The PowerFC is not a "piggyback" ecu. It's a full ECU that replaces the stock ECU and is fully programable.

Edit.. DOH

I assumed you're still fitting the manual and not an auto, but re-reading your post you don't actually state that - just to be clear, the Soarer Power FC will not run an autobox - you need kdogd's or MV auto's controller for that of the stock Soarer Auto ECU.
We tested the Soarer Power FC on an autobox loomed Soarer that was converted to R154 5 speed recently and it ran fine with no issues like it was supposed to.
Like i said, you'd need a competent wiring job to get either the factory manual ECU or a Power FC to run the Soarer loomed 1JZGTE in the IS200 - dash outputs, cruise control, A/C idle up etc would need to be properly interfaced and is not dependant on the Power FC's capabilities.
And yes, the Power FC is a plug compatible fully programmable ECU - runs my Soarer flawlessly with integrated boost controller and 3 bar MAP sensor controlling bigger twins, cams, 650cc injectors etc at 300rwkw @ 20 psi without a single wire being cut/spliced. Oh and every other electronic system (progressive power steer, climate control, cruise control, SRS etc) retains factory operation and behaviour. It even started and ran the car for 4 weeks out of the box before it was tuned - straight from the manufacturer; not bad for $900 imho!

Hi Manny, it's Dom here...

Koffee-Black does the IS200 run the multiplexed wiring system like some of the later model Lexuses? If so then the only option may be to piggyback the factory ecu with a Haltec, Motec, Autronic etc...

i have played round with an e-manage on a 2jzgte in an is300 i think it was cant remember

the car had the auto gbox but had the up and down gear shifting in the t bar area

the std ecu for 2jzge runs a shitload of stuff

theres 5 big plugs it also runs the auto

what is the std engine in the is200

i would look for a piggy back ecu
incase u run into probs half way thru the conversion
or when u go to start it

Just to clear things, Im running a JZA80 W58 5 Speed. Im hoping the other computers will look after climate control etc etc, and piggy back the Haltech alone for the comp.

Standard engine in the IS200 is 1gfe

Re: Power FC with 1JZGTE Thu, 18 March 2004 21:29 Go to previous messageGo to next message
ok
just checked my ecu plug book

looks like a 1gfe only has 3 plugs on the ecu

if that is correct then it would not control too much external stuff

it would just do the engine and maybe auto if it had one std
but i would think it might another ecu for auto

anyway u r not running an auto

so u could probably remove the factory ecu and just run a haltech

have u got a wiring diagram for the 1gfe ecu

if u have and can show me it i can tell u if it runs anything else in the vehicle apart from engine

or if u havnt i can try find one and see what the ecu controls
and see if it is anything important

was the car auto? as this would stop the cruise from workin if u went to manual

climate control has nothin to do with engine ecu

cool! Thanks for that!

I dont have the diagram, where could I get it??

The car has always been a manual. So there is no cruise control.

i havnt hear dof that engine

especially if its only 3 plugs on the ecu and the car is manual
