Tommo's TA22 Wed, 17 March 2004 12:22 Go to next message
Its a '75 TA22 and everthing is stock at the moment.

I thought I'd put in an update to let you know my plans.

In the near future I will be repairing some rust, doing some panel beating, and then giving it a respray in the factory red. (does anyone know where I can find the paint code?)
I will also be replacing the standard 2T engine with a slightly modified 2T.
I'd like to replace the auto g/b with a W55 incase I decide to go for another engine swap some time down the track.
I'll be upgrading the front brakes to magna discs and VL calipers.
I'll be doing a few suspension mods aswell but I haven't started looking into anything yet.

All this work will be done by myself, my dad, brother, and anyone else who wants to help.

My short term goals are to get it neat and fun to drive.

Thanks to celicaboi for hosting!

Obviously never seen a classic celica steering wheel before. They're all like that. Commonly referred to as the 'bus steering wheel'. The single most detrimental device when it comes to taking corners fast. It will slip out of your hand at any given moment.

taplus22: sorry champ. I dont understand what your trying to say there ^. I know the original steering wheel looks and feels like it came straight off a bus. I haven't installed the moto-lita wheel yet but i'll try get a photo of it up sometime. its a much nicer wheel.

yeh it doesnt go too bad, i'm still running stock though. i have to do a bunch of things to get it engineered, let me make a list.
*brakes Embarassed $$$
*hide the surge tank, (or pretend i dont have one) Sad
*vent my battery to the atmosphere Sad
*lay a metal fuel line under the car Sad
*weld my seats
*weld a plate in the floor to cover the hole the gearstick used to come out of.
*more things will come to me.
so yeh there is abit to be done but i have until october to do it all. i may need to take a loan out to get it finished.

The beauties of engine conversions Very Happy

I put the new (old) steering wheel in today. its a smaller diameter so now it doesnt feel like im driving a boat as much.
ive got the oldschool toyota emblem in the middle (im not sure if its upside down or not Confused lol). my dad has owned it for decades and it used to be in my mums RA23 AGES ago.
I reckon the wheel looks good and feels much better.

I took the celica to a friends dads work today and got a quote on fixing the rust and respraying the car.
He's going to patch up 2 rust holes in the boot and a few other little bits of surface rust, repair all the little dings, take the front and rear windscreen out to make sure theres no hidden rust in those areas and then respray it in peugeot aden red
he quoted $2000 which sounds pretty darn good to me. this will probably upset my dad though coz he was pretty keen on fixing it ourselves. but meh we will just stick with what we know and do the auto to manual and engine change ourselves.
