Yeah, i went, i think i saw you there?
Was a good event, and the only crash (although bad for the owners) was quite entertaining.
And i was quite impressed by some of the aussie drifters. Although the japanese drivers were insane.

Yer i was there too .. Till the end unlike the other hundreds of people who left really early due to a huge gap in the program .
The Japanese really put on a good show ... Nuts driving .
In between lots of long brakes and that fucking cop car bullshit , once you have seen one car on two wheels who cares . and someone on 250cc track bike doing laps by himself and riding in circles for 30mins ...
I feel really sorry for simon rx7 on this forum , his driving was spot on all day , defenantly driving the quickist out of the n/a cars . And to get his wheels stolen by some fucking low life because the pit garages where not open , and there was no security apart for like three guys , and what looked like 70+ full lock shirt wear boys walking about chatting to one another on there two way radios which couldn't organise there way out of a wet paper bag , fucking riped both ways ...
And what about the crash with the JMS pink bits car !! Who decided it was his fault .. He took the guys racing line . Better read some motorsport rules and manuals boys , if a car is infront from the b pillar in is his racing line , and how does the other car have the racing line when it is on the fucking grass .
Thinking about it now . It was full of some great driving , but piss poorly run . Mite head up to the next SA one to see how they run theres .

I've never seen such pathetic driving in my life.
I am sure that 90% of the drivers at Calder today were/are convinced that drifting is hanging the arse of the car out around a corner for a few metres, then sliding helplessly into the dirt and ending up backwards. Few drivers produced the neat flow -linking corners- that I have become attached to in the HPI drift videos. Several drivers could not even show the basic clutch/throttle synchronisation needed to get their vehicle moving in a straight line after grinding to a halt midcorner.
My sympathies go out to Simon rx7, who created a good part of the decent sideways action seen today. Having watched those Fulltoss shirt blokes standing around doing bugger all, I think they need a good kick up the backside. To those who didn't attend, the thieving of Simon's wheels seems somewhat indicative of the general level of tossfactor in the crowd.
Overall, the bad moments horribly outweighed the good ones. Australian drift has a long way to go.
What a waste of 15 dollars. I hope JMS host a better comp.

well i think it was a pretty good event!! i had a pretty good time.altho the best moments were when the D1 guys were doing their thing. yes comparing D1 guys to the regular drift guys today is a total joke altho i must say that the broadside guys are pretty damn good. well here are some pics from today and a vid if anybody missed it!!

Mr Smart
Did you like the Cressida , that thing had a great engine sound , i wonder what was it that thing . lots of go too . I think that the SA comps are hosted by some kind of motorsport body up there .. So theres no bullshit . and the judges are not from the event it self they are outside groups so its fair ...
Like what was seven marshalls standing and sitting on one corner ? i have seen better marshalling by unpaid people at club track days , no wonder that most of the crashes where out of there view , they should have got of the fat asses , Instead of feeling very important in front of there mates . No wonder that track has got the ass by motorsport in general .
Hey was that supra in the 90% ? i one a bet that he would loose control in the same spot into the sand every run . Well good on the guy for having a go , but i don't know if that type of car was really right for that . And lets not start on the hold up's by the datto 1600's ... breaking down and getting stuck out there and the other one just doing circle work .. maybe they should go in the summernats ..

"wow what an awesome event!!! It was good to see a drift event that was really well organized!!! the D1 guys were awesome and i hope that aussi drifters can get to that level of drifting soon. i think team broadside is damn close along with some oher guys. well if you missed it here are some pics and a vid...we should have more vids soon!!"

Begin Rant:
I was there and it was great, had i known the level of skill was gonna be so low i would have entered. They would have made me look like a drift king!!!!it was true that 90% of the people there couldnt do anything but tail slides, but those that could were pretty good.
and all you guys are insane if u didnt think the yellow 86 from QLD was nuts, that guy was pushing that thing so hard and doing about the best job, style wise, out of the amatures. And the white 86 with black bonnet, that the commentator insisted on calling a panda 86, was almost as good.
i just wonder how many s13's and 180's were written off on the way home.
btw black twin turbo supra = almost impossible to drift + moron = moron in supra wasting my time! Its harsh i know but me and my m8's were betting on if he would be the second crash of the day and ive gotta say im disapointed i lost that bet.
Rant ends.

I would say i got my $15 worth,
The aussie drifters weren't all that impressive, but at least they gave it a go,
Simon in the AE86, was damn awesome, i found that he was very consistant the whole day, and linking more corners than most of the factory tuned drivers
The police car, get him the fuck off the track, and go back to easternats....
The D1 drivers, who are insanely nuts, shown me what i'll never be able to do in my car, the stuff i've seen in videos, which was a damn good display of driving technique....
the JMS car looked great, but i didn't find it overly exciting on the car, looked like he was just spinnin the wheels the whole time, didn't have much style in his drifting was more of a burnout comp for him.
just my opinion, and if theres on in adeliade or sydney, i might think about going to the next one, was a very enjoyable day.

how about the dancers, especially the one to the back left with the nice rack . That japanese d1 guy was so funny ..
I was pretty impressed with what the competitors.. It's so much harder to slide on a big hairpin than on the streets. The yellow 86 from queensland was awesome.. 180d the car a few times, but when he got it, he got it really bloody good.
*statistics have shown the 1 out of every 10 patron's car that attended the event will be in a body shop by the end of the week

Hey Simon,
Sorry to hear about those wheels - that really is low but hopefully they wouldn't be that hard to spot.
Were these the SSR Mk1 alloys or Shano's old Hartage wheels or something else?
Good to hear though that you still have that magic of yours and have done Australia (& AE86 owners) proud.
Keep up the good work and keep it sideways as always!

I take it this was Josh's car? Did it have 'Custard' by the side?
It only had an LSD installed couple of weeks ago and the 4AG put in just over last Christmas. Nice to see this car has come a long way in just a few weeks.

Hey guys, thanks for the support all, i got back late last night and i have never been so drained of energy in my life, i arrived in melbourn on friday night and we proceeded to check in at Kelior Motor Inn and then head straight to the crown casino where i met up with quite a few other guys off here (steve ae86, crab etc etc), had some drinks, then headed to goldfingers on christ knows what street.
finally got back to Motor inn at 6:45am... thrashed 2 rental cars all the way back from town too anyway we had to be at calder at 8am to meet our track that was carrying my car and the JMS car... no such luck the track was 2 hours late.
there were moments of the day where i was nearly asleep lol.
all in all, i agree i should have placed better and i, and evertyone else around me, were surprised when i "lost" to the black 180, sure we both span out on the 1st lap, but i completly dominated him on the 2nd lap. but oh well im not going to carry on about it, thats motorsport.
Big ups to Josh in the Custard ae86, i honestly thought you and i were going to battle it out for the finals, but once the jhudges made their minds up that was that, so thats why him and i went out afterwarsds for chain drift and then double ringies. the respect that him and i got from the D1 drivers was simply awesome!!! one of them hugged me while all 5 shook our hands with wide smiles, we had a chat toi them (via a translator) and this was what they wanted too see, more crowd pleasing, more show of skill etc etc.
as for my wheels.... they are SSR Reverse Mesh with black centers, 15X7's, a pair. polished dish too. if i find the fuckers who did it, they will pay dearly. please keep an eye out for these and do not buy stolen goods.
also, was good to meet some toymodders off here too. thanks for comeing up and saying hi guys, it kept me awake that little bit longer
sat night after the nats.. we then went out again.,...
72 hours with 5 hours sleep.
oh and i wish i could openly comment my thoughts about full lock and the use of Martin donnon as a judge.. but i wont. PM me if u want my thoughts

Here's my post from the thread in the victoria section
Quote: | the d1 drivers were nuts! the speeds they were going at, and how close they were together.
anyways, adam i think denso lost it a bit at the end of the s bend and was on teh grass, which slowed him down. then you could see the onevia about to pass him, but denso drifted back infront of him while the onvia had already built up quite a bit more speed.
That's from just what I thought I saw or can remember tho. I'd say lucky if it was the onevia's fault tho, cos i thought he was a better drifter than denso.
|
badluck to hear about the rims .. we'll keep a look out for em .. and since ya all the way back in qld, i'll look after them
Who's martin donnon?
Also I'm not sure the track marshalls were paid. I know some that weren't [not speaking for all].
And also the commentator Liam, he was poking fun at all people, not just the guys from interstate. The comps in adelaide are run by jms and have judges from jms as well.
also heard the s15 and the black mk4 supra only started drifting on practise day. that's two weeks before the event. props to them for making the effort especially with such nice cars which cost alotta $$$ !!

LIL Mic, there is no way that crash was denso's fault...
there is a vid going around on the net already.. watch it...
You can see that denso is probably going to loop it and instead of trying to avoid him or slow down the 1via just drifted into him as he looped...
just my oppinion....
p.s. you can also se in that vid that neither of them were doing very well with the 1via comming of the track twice already on that run, and denso coming off once... (who was doing better???)

Shame there wasn't a bit more from the D1 guys as they were bloody amazing!

Day started out slow but once the D1 drivers came out, it was all good Thumbs up to all that tried... successful or not, you're helping create interest in a "sport" which is still new to alot of people here in Vic (Don't get me started on some of the lost talk I heard that day ). Definately made me want to grab a RWD and give it a shot
I'm somewhat glad it didn't rain (looked like it would) but also dissapointed as it would've made the track more interesting Too bad there aren't many tracks for this sort of thing... But not like that ass Bracks is going to do nething bout that. Oh well let's build more industrial areas to help... err improve... stuff <_<

Sorry to bring this back up, but I just watched the clip and it looked like it happened pretty much how I saw it.
The clip I saw was a decent resolution in wmv format. It shows denso coming off onto the grass at the end of the S turn. The camera focuses on denso driving straight on the grass. This is when the onevia built up quite a bit of speed and started fishing.
Then just before the big corner, denso drifts back infront of the onevia and starts drifting the corner [which is where i thought denso should have stayed out of the way]. But it was like he forced himself back on, as the onevia looked like he was ready to pass. If you watch the clip, denso's drift is slower than the onevia's which is where the first tap happened. Obviously denso's speed had dropped quite a bit which is why his drift was slower. Also the onevia had to cut the corner a little due to this.
Then they both were tandem drifting and for a split second [which is how fast u have to make decisions at a time like that]it looked ok for the onevia to continue, however denso spins out all of a sudden so that his ass end sticks out enough and hits the onevia. The onevia would have made it thru nicely if denso didn't spin. It would have been a nice tandem exit drift.
The onevia did come off on the first corner, but he didnt block denso off and he recovered. Drift accidents happen all the time tho. I don't think it's meant to be blamed on anyone.
