Turbo for 4agte (yes i know its been covered before)

Hey,
I am about to build a 4agte for a ke70. 8.9:1 gze with big port head, rwd intake mani. I wanted to run a ball bearing t28 off a s15 but they are hard to find and seem pretty pricey. I am aiming for about 250rwhp. What other options do I have?? I want good street performance/drivability, not something thats gonna spool up at 7000rpm. Also one that wont do much damage to my pocket.
Thanks.

I'll second that! If you want big power expect to pay big bucks.
OPTION 1:
SAVE UP!!! Do it right the first time and save yourself a lot of heartache and hassle's.
OPTION 2:
Be a tight ass, buy some second hand shit, and then be forever disappointed at the performance because you were a tight ass in the first place, then go spend more money which you don't have.
As for a s15 turbo being hard to find Man you could ring any turbo shop and they could deliver you one to your door tomorrow. Which leads you to option 1!
My 2 cents......

ke382tg and Te72_turbo both made around 170kw @ the wheels which is around 227hp. Using a bit older, cheaper t28, which are pretty easy to find. I was thinking of using one of those. 240-250hp isnt far off that. Why would it be so hard acheiving 250??? Im doing head work and internal work, from what I read theirs is stock.

I'm building a 4agte at the moment. I bought a brand new gt28 which will set you back about $1300 or so. Second hand s15 turbo's are hard to get cause people with the s14 use them for an upgrade.
I've heard skyline and wrx turbos are the goods( These shouldnt set you back too much ). Just watch out when buying second hand turbo's though.
Look man,You'll get the power you want if you do your homework.

Horsepowerinabox were selling the 320hp GT2x turbo for around $1300 over a year ago, i've never seen them so cheap since though
Mine recently made 242rwhp at 20psi with a conventional bearing S14 T28 (same turbo as before, but with better tuning & more boost) an a stock 4AGZE bottom end & bigport N/A cams, factory inlet manifold. Hardly a crazy or big $$$ recipe, and it does so reliably, just find a good tuner.

If anyones seen the lastest fast fours, it has a nice ke20 wagon with a 4agte. 4age block, gze pistons, some custom sti water/air intercooler he made him self(i think it is dumb), quad throttles/custom intake mani, t3/4 turbo. Making 175kw@wheels. I think this is low power for the work he has done to it. Unless he is running low boost (doesnt say). Get a copy for full motor details.
Nice looking car though.

i put a td04L 99 wrx turbo on to a bog stock 86kw 4age, with a gt4 celica air to air cooler, microtech LT8, bigger injectors etc, it made 186rwhp on 11psi boost, the turbo was pretty much a perfect size for a low lag setup with instant boost and would still hold it nice to about 7000rpm,
on 15-16psi boost 220rwhp would not be a problem.

I second the advice about saving up and doing it right first time. After having gone through 2 second hand turbos in 4 months, I finally bit the bullet and bought a brand new S15 BB turbo from Nissan for just over $1500 (that includes GST). I was quoted just over $2000 for a Garrett GT25, so the Nissan seemed a fair price.

Once u start developing a package youd be suprised how many thing that not only pop up but get done more than once. In the srtive for performance I have changed my turbo three times hence also changed intercooler piping.Have changed intercoolers twice and am about to do it again. There is no set recipe so there is gunna be research and development and that costs money.
I dont trust dyno readouts. Line em up see how they go...
