awesome.. yeah, spoke to that John Tynell, and he says it'll take a week for them to fit that little contraption thingy in a center..
I don't wanna have my car off road for that long, so I just need a spare one... This is a bit of a trial, so if I don't like the modified diff, I've still got my original. I'll tell you how it turns out gaz..
speak to ya soon .

It's a plate that sits between the spider gear thingy in the diff center. It's got like four springs on a piece of steel.
when you give it a bit of gas, it distributes the power evenly. When not, it feels just like a regular diff (doesn't screw up your axels).
not as intelligent as an LSD (when the car is slipping, it takes the power from the free spinning wheel and distrubutes it to the other), but I guess a bit better than a welded locker..
the wheels themselves don't actually lock up.
He says it's very similar to traction control.
I guess that's about it.. Hard to explain, as I really don't know whats going on.. But I'll put it in, do some donuts and see how it goes..
I'll speak to you tonite and maybe come around for the parts (of not, sometime after work this week)..
cheers.

You make it sound like an open diff which has the one wheel spinning constantly, only that you have the other one attached with springs so when the driven wheel turns, the springs stretch a bit before 'locking' the other wheel and then turning both together ...
Let us know how it works - it doesn't sound as crude as a locked diff but as to whether it works, those better be some strong springs ...

Dodgy, I called the guy up aswell and had a word to him. The springs are rated to hold around 170HP from the flywheel. So its a no go for high HP turbo applications.. BUT, perfect for us 4AG peeps.. He said he uses it in his rally car. And has also had great succes with track & motorkhana.. So for the price i'm willing to give it a shot..

No probs Gaz ... I reckon it's certainly inventive and would be better than welding a diff.
I've got a LSD for the AE86 so that's no probs however with a budget KE20 project in the planning, this would certainly be of interest.
