which halfcut is the best for this conversion. i would like to get the single vvti model if possible....any advantages/disadvantages with the single compared to the twins?

There isn't really any 1J halfcut that is best, all of them require some engine mount fabrication & wiring manipulation. If you're keen on the single turbo version, just make sure it has the sump at the front.
The main advantage of the single is more power, not necessarily at peak but in the low & mid range. I don't know what sump configs it comes in or if anything else makes it a harder/easier conversion.
I recently put a 1J from a JZX81 in my brothers mx73, if you do a search on MX73 iJZ you should find a thread where I go through most of the mods needed. We didn't bother getting a halfcut though, we just went with an engine package with motor, auto box, loom, ecu, airbox & half the exhaust. Any other necessary bits I scrounged from the wreckers or the importers.
