What's involved in changing the uni joints on a te71/ae86 tailshaft, and is it difficult?
Thanks...

toyota ones arent rebuildable, you will have to get them machined out and then use kingswood uni's i think.
talk to a diff/tailshaft shop.

Some are rebuildable, some aren't. The tailshaft in my MA61 is not rebuildable, and since the AE86 is from the same era I'd guess the same applies. Older Toyota's (eg RA23 Celica) and commercial vehicles (eg Hilux) have rebuildable tailshafts.

My unis, 81-85 car are replaceable...
Have a look at the uni's, if they have a circlip they'll be replaceable, but if they look like they are held in by the sides being squashed down they are apparently unreplaceable.
On a side note a question of my own, why isn't it possible to just press the old "non" replaceable uni out and install a new one, and once installed fix in place via pressing using a star shaped jig (or similar) to secure the new uni? (the main problem I can see is centering the uni?)
Cheers

I managed to combine parts from a T18 and KE70 tailshaft a couple of weeks ago without too much drama...

You can, but it costs $UBER
I had my driveshaft rebuilt a few months back.
$200 to replace all uni's and rebalance.
If they weren't replaceable (as I was warned they may not be), then the price would have gone out to $800 or so, as it would all have to be machined.
Needless to say, lucky it wasn't the case.
