Cutting hole in bonnet for a bonnet scoop

Need your advice everyone.
Trying to mount a bonnet scoop in the centre of my bonnet and wanting to cut a hole in the centre. However there is a bonnet support straight through the centre. What if I just cut the bonnet metal without cutting the bonnet support? I am looking at getting this engineered.
I asked an engineer today - if the bonnet supports are cut then it cannot be engineered. But if I cut just the bonnet metal on either side of the bonnet support (i.e instead of having one big square I have two smaller squares on both sides of the bonnet support) for a hole and not cut any supports it can be engineered but the bonnet needs to be reinforced.
Anyone got any ideas on how to reinforce the bonnet?
Cheers

If you cut a hole in the bonnet without cutting the support frame it will not need any engineering and it will all be legal as long as the scoop meets the standards of what the RTA specifies.
If you do cut the support frame you can weld in supports around the hole you cut and this can and will need to be engineered.

how about if i wanted to cut vents in the bonnet for the purpose of letting air in just above the in take on a celica, can you get away with that one, or does that need to be engineered? ~my need to mesh it tho, i would look rather dodgey other wise, big money problem right now tho.

Any hole will need to be covered.

Seca, basically just do whatever will satisfy your engineer.
