5M-E Woes... Thu, 25 March 2004 23:56 Go to next message
Hey All,

Currently I am trying to chase up parts for the engine. I am looking for new pistons but I can't seem to find the ones that I would like (Flat top - Not Dished). Does anyone know any equilivent piston tops which are flat which will fit the block.

Any Ideas anyone?

Cheers.

5mge (early) and 6mge are both flat top, and I believe they are the same.

Personally, I would fit the 5MGE high tops.

Should I also go and get a 7MGE crank and rods and put it in the bottom of the 5ME?

Cheers.

Read your email. I left a suitably longwinded reply there. Smile

Look at pg 251 of that file (15 meg). ACL 5ME pistons are dished. 5MGE pistons have 0.1mm extra compression height (no big deal - you have a mile of clearance) and are mildly high top to boot. This should put your static compression ratio well above 9:1. If you can then use a 7M crank and rods, the extra swept volume crammed into the slightly smaller combustion chamber should put you very close to the desired 10:1 you ought to be looking for.
