GZE cool down

Guys
Am I required to cool down my GZE after driving it hard?
You know, like a turbo charged car? I usually let it run for 60 seconds or so. Is this necessary?

not in the same sense?
meaning that since its not run by the exhaust gases it doesnt get quite so hot?

I think warming down a turbo charged engine is more for the turbo's sake rather than the engines. Since a sudden drop in temperature can have an adverse effect on metal. If you let the car cool down for a bit it will allow cooler oil to run through the tubro and cool it down a little so when you do actually turn the car off the drop in temp isn't so great.. correct me if I'm worng though

it is a good idea to let any engine run for 30-60 secs afer a bit of hard driving as this allows the temperature to equalise inside the engine to help prevent seizing and adverse wear from temperature variation and expansion of the metal parts

yes the supercharger has oil in it as well, but it doesn't run off the engine oil
anyways, just my kookey theory, I always let mine idle for 30-60 seconds after any type of hard drving, just for piece of mind..

I think its recommended that turbo's be let run after any sort of prolonged/hard driving. I know they had all sorts of trouble with our transit vans before they put turbo timers on them.
As for NA motors i can't see it hurting, as the others said probably does more good then harm.
Hehe, I took up computers for my work, cars for my hobby. Get me talking about either and you can't shut me up

With the SC12 Supercharger on the GZE it has its own internal sump, so it is still lubricated after shutdown.
Nonetheless i still run mine for about 30-40s after driving.

I am going to continue running mine for at least 60 seconds after driving. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for your replies.

How's about doing something even more productive, and driving the thing gently for a minute or two before you park it? Always going to be more effective than just sitting there idling in the carpark, even if doing so DOES make everyone think you're cool

i thought letting the turbo cool was more to stop the oil burning up in the galleries of the turbo??
i agree with MrShin, best idea is just to drive nicely for the last couple of minutes... the idea being to slightly reduce overall temps and temp differentials..
if you drive hard then shut off, you get more heat soak from exhaust etc, and this soak may just be enough to start burning oil etc, (the oil temp will rise AFTER you shut the engine off!)

what are you going on about!?
I was asking a simple question about cooling down after driving hard. I am not interested in showing off. Fool.
I am genuinely interested in my ZE lasting as long as possible. I only drive hard when I have to show falcondores what jap coupes are all about.

Just bear in mind that idling or driving easily wont have much of an effect on the supercharger itself because it is on a clutch and so isn't spinning when you are taking it easy.
Such things will help the engine in general, but the supercharger will be sitting doing nothing whether the car is off, you are idling in a carpark or just grannying it along for the last k or two.

Thanks Stuart and Henn
I hear what youre saying. I forgot that the SC has a clutch so sitting there idling or grannying b4 i get home wont do anything, basically.
cheers
