Leaking coolant on 4agze	Sat, 27 March 2004 04:32

Hey peoples, I'm leaking a fair bit of coolant out of my engine (4agze). I've lost about 1/2 of the coolant from my overflow in about 3 days. Its leaking from what seems to be some type of plug or something next to the oil filter underneath the exhaust manifold, my dad said something about it possibly being a 'welsh plug' but he was only guessing. My oil is free of coolant (changed it this week and thats when I noticed the coolant leak, and my coolant is free of oil, I drained some of it out of my radiator to have a look and also just had a look under the pressure cap. Any ideas? I can post some pics up this afternoon if anyone would like to help me out and have a look? Oh yea, is there any truth about mixing red and green collant and it being highly corrosive? Get a pressure test if you cannot see any obviously leaks , dried coolant on componants will leave a noticable colour stain , most likely white. Check the tank of your radiator , hose connections , water pump housings , themostat housings , ect. [Updated on: Sat, 27 March 2004 05:04] [Report message to a moderator]

I will get a pressure test done on monday. I have checked all pipes and so on. I can see where its leaking from, I will post a pic up this arvo and maybe it will be easier to see I have to go gte my camera cable from my mates place first though. Thanks -Andrew [Report message to a moderator]

Here is where the coolant is leaking from.. my oil filer is driectly behind the left hand manifold pipe.. -Andrew [Report message to a moderator]

Cant see the pic, but the point you are indicating sounds like the coolant drain plug. [Report message to a moderator]

the pic aint the best but a coolant drain plug would be at the bottom of the system wouldnt it so all the coolant can flow out looks like a welsh plug... good news - there cheap bad news - good luck putting a new one in the run down - u have to knock em in then feed em out then clean up and hit new one in... if u get me [Report message to a moderator]

Thanks, yeah it was the a welsh plug. cost me a bit to get it fixed as well (didn't have nearly enough time to do it myself), oh well. she's running sweet again now so I'm happy -Andrew [Report message to a moderator]
