ST-162 SUNROOF SOLUTION IDEA!!!!!

I'm supposed to be doing my Tafe work, but this idea popped into my head, now the st-162s are great with the sunroof, adds to the really sporty feel of em, nice on the summer days....
What if u took off the panel, Sanded it down, and applied a RUST PROOF solution to it before respraying??
Would it be expensive??
Would u have to replace the seals for the sunroof?? how much are they??
U've probably thought about the idea before, i just thought i might bring it up!!!
Regards
Adrian

you can re-use the seals if they are in good nic, but you can also buy them from toyota, pretty exxy though I think..
yeah, that is exactly what I would do, take it off, take it somewhere to get sand blasted (ideally) otherwise a nice strip and brush then paint with a "rust proofing" primer and you're set!

my sunroof is pretty rusted, not to the point of leaking though. i was thinking though, how much would it cost to have a fibreglass panel cast? cos then it would be physically impossible to rust, and lighter weight. If I or someone else ever finds out all of us with sunroofs should see how much itd cost to get a stack of em made up... anyone know someone who would do it cheap?

fiberglass is pretty easy to work with..
Maybe do some reasearch and glass your own.
I was thinking maybe a balsa or card core with enough layers of fiberglass to make it rigid.

Rip the panel out, repair any rust bits that require metal, cover in POR15. Repair any little bits. Give two more coats of POR15. Pump deororised fish oil under the little cracks on the underside where it's hard to get to. Then respray it.
Do it properly, and the rust isn't coming back.

I had the same prob. in my Astina SP...... I removed the sunroof sanded it down then went at the rust with a wire brush then covered the specs of rust with some weird "rust preventer & remover" i waited till it changed color applied bog to the imperfections then undercoated and sprayed it this took me less then a day and the rust never came back
With the fibreglass idea..... i believe Jetspeed Motorsport can do this as they can fibreglass anything
