1JZ inlet manifold heat problem...

Hi all, my 1JZ's inlet manifold has one hot spot when the rest is cold.. is this normal?
In the spot marked "source of heat" theres a line that can be seen running into it, which runs down into the side of the block, but this doesn't appear to be coolant, as the coolant line coming from the top of the radiator around the front of the engine is cold also....
THis happens after the engine has only been running for say.. 1 minute on idle... is this normal?
Can someone else test this on their 1JZ for me?
Thanks..
Jim

The majority of inlet manifolds are heated to stop the throttle plate freezing shut in cold weather.
While i dont know the 1JZ, that is probably a coolant line that bypasses the thermostat, so it heats up very early.

Yep, thats how its supposed to work. Redirect/Bypass that hot coolant if you are worried about it. Lotsa guys think it helps to keep the charge air a little cooler. Might not be such a great idea in the frozen back blocks of Canada.

isn't that for the cold start as well? the reason it idles high until its up to temp

It has nothing to do with cold start; when the engine is cold the coolant is cold as well, so what good would it do?

some engines use that small amount of coolant to help control the cold idle. like the thermostat in your radiator, but when its cold it opens to bypass some air to lift the idle and after it heats up closes the valve and drops the idle down again. quite a simple setup with the aditional benefit of icy weather being the freezing issue
