ke70 drift car?

hello all,
Upon returning to australia from Japan, i have been thinking about getting into a little bit of drifting. I have no experience at present.
I own a ke70 corolla which has a 5k engine in it with a webber, extractors and exhaust. What mods should I do to make this a decent drift car? I don't want anything too crazy as this would be a budget project.
I was thinking, shocks (what type?), springs (what rate?), 15's with lower profile tyres, most likely a locked diff. Do this to start with and see if the 5k is up to it. If it isn't, maybe a 16v 4age conversion? I will do a search on the swap, but if anybody wants to throw in some info., it would be great!
Thanks in advance
Chris

I was thinking the exact same thing..
I know a lot of ae86 suspension components are the same, so you won't have a problem sourcing parts..
If i had money, I'll get like 8kg springs at the front, 6kg springs at the rear. Short stroke shokers all round, and some decent sways... That'll get you sliding good... makes a very unconfortable street car tho.
strip everything out of the car.. including the backseat, and get yourself a 4age 100kwater... Should be mighty fast.. Considering how much the car will now weigh, the power to weight ratio should be enough for you to have some decent fun..
Getting an LS for the Ke70 is a ripp off. You'll either have to adapt, or get one from japan, which will set you back thousdands either way.. Go locker, or try one of those cheapo phantom grip LS thingy's ...
let us know how it goes!
rock on.

you said that ke70's have similar suspension setup to ae86s. Does that mean that ae86's have the shocky seperate from the spring like my ke70?
what brand of shocks make a shorter stroke shocky for a ke70?

Yes, if your talking about the rear then yes the shocky is seperate from the spring.
There are many brands that make short stroke shocks for the ae86/ke70/ae71/te71
KYB
TRD(Made by KYB)
Tokico
Koni
..etc
theres probably heaps more. My personal pick are the Tokico HTS shocks, very nice shocks.

yeah, same goes for the ae86,
the ae86 has a live axel rear.
just get coilovers for the front..
and do springs and shocks seperately for the rear..

I have seen a drift video and there was a black ke70 with a 4agte in it, it was the wildest little car on a tight drift track, but no power steering meant the dude was flat out trying to steer/correct it all the time. still looked very cool.

i have often pondered why no-one else has done this. essentially, the 2 cars are the same, supension wise, but one is a 2door (obviously stiffer body) and one is a 4door (no real theft value).
kudos for thinking outside the square.

they guy your thinking about rotorace in japan, his ae71, was supercharged still, cause i remember seeing the video half way thru my conversion and thinking to myself how hard it would be to leave it supercharged than to turbo it, but yeah, it went allright.
for suspension in my ke70, at the moment im using cut springs (haha) but with ra60 shocks and brakes up front, i have a set of coilovers to go in, its a bit of mystery where the coilovers came from but they have y31 written on top, and supra written on the rotors, but they arnt supra rotors, so damned if i know.. they should fit in allright thou.
im building mine for drag first, then drift, have to beat my mates mark4 supra first 11.8 i have to beat.
anyways..
oh, its a 4agte in a ke70.. wish i started with a ae71.. doh!
