3T-GTEU question re. exh manifold - Turbo flange porting (PICS)

Ok my mate has a 3T-GTEU in his KE20, and just today i took off the exhaust manifold because there was an exhaust leak which caused the turbo build almost no boost. I found the leak to be a blown turbo flange gasket (almost the entire side that faces the block was missing!), and of course removed the exhaust manifold from the car.
When compared to a spare turbo manifold for the 3T-GTEU we noticed a big difference compared to the one that came off the car.... its been ported at the flange.
The car is still running the stock CT20 turbo, which hasn't been extrude honed or whatever (still has a 2" exhaust housing inlet). Is this bad? When you look at the pics below, you can see on the turbo how much the exhaust manifold is overlapped onto the turbo. Im wondering if this is doing more harm than good, if there is actually any benefit from doing this?
Is this what might've caused the gasket to blow out?
ANd lastly... which bloody manifold should i chuck back on when i get a new gasket?

Its probably been ported for use with a single entry CT26 (7MGTE type), as their inlet size matches that. You will notice that even the factory CT20 gasket is that size, not the size of the smaller entry into the CT20 turbo.
If you think it contributed to the gasket failing, you should just get a standard 3TGTE exhaust manifold (like the second one in your picture).
Cheers

Well looking at the gasket, yes it is the larger size which matches the ported exhaust manifold like you say....
Ok, so judging by your statement im assuming that the 3T-GTE exhaust manifold has the same turbo flange as a CT26, so what would be involved with shoving a CT26 turbo on here?
Also, could i then use the 7M-GTE gasket as an equal counterpart replacement? I need to get a gasket ASAP, and dont want to wait for one from Japan....

I've seen alot of CT20'd 3TGTE's with loose nuts around the turbo - given they're 20 years old and subjected to extremes of temperature, it's not hard to understand they work themselves loose! I'd use either manifold in your application, and would only replace the CT20 with a CT26 if you wan't to spend the extra money on modified oil and water lines, dump pipes, and air piping.
On a brighter note, I think I have a spare gasket in the shed, will have a look for it in the morning.

Okay
Whilst the CT20 & CT26 share the same inner circle diameter, they actually have different spacing between the mounting studs by about 4-5mm So the gaskets are definately not interchangeable, and fitment of a CT26 would involve slotting the mounting holes in the exhaust housing, plus the obvious change of oil lines, water lines & dump pipe.
Gasket kits for both the CT20 and CT26 are available from GCG for a FULL SET (manifold to turbo, dump pipe, oil line flange, etc etc) for around $40, so you cant go wrong there. Dont make the mistake of paying $40+ for each individual gasket from toyota like I did.

i took some advice from a certain man with a beard.... and went to GCG
Yes the complete turbo gasket kit costs $40... and they have both the square type and round type CT20 turbo kits.
So on it goes this arvo!
