Box will work better than any pod

Bit of both

Toyota don't spend millions on designing an engine without giving huge thought to the intake system.

99% of people who put on pod filters put on cheap ones, or/and let the filter breathe in hot air from the engine bay.

Most Toyota airboxes have some form of cold air induction, restrictive as it may be.

I'd suggest leaving the box stock, run a genuine Toyota filter, and open up the intake on the box (to air infront of the radiator only)

But hey, thats just my 2 cents

i think i am going to still continue with the pod, do you know if what i propose will still leave me with a running car? i am afraid that the AFM needs to be in the box but?

The AFM does not need an airbox to function correctly. What you have proposed will work fine, provided there are no leaks of course.

I agree with Cruzsida though, you're very unlikely to get any measurable performance increase doing this, and if anything you will lose performance. You will get much more induction noise though so it will probably "feel" faster.

Just make sure you sheild off any exhuast/radiator heat that will increase the intake temps and it will be worth it.
