3sge unusual sound Tue, 30 March 2004 09:34 Go to next message
Hey guys

I was wondering if you guys could help me with this unusual sound i hear, after driving the car abit hard there seems to be this unusual sound coming near the timing belts, kinda like an irritating noise, can't describe it, it only comes on when the engine bay is quite hot, and when i push the car abit hard, i was wondering if anyone's had this problem as well? could it just be the timing belt needs to be replaced?? how often does the T'belt need to be replaced anyway??

Cheers

a timming belt will need to be replaced every 100 000Km, in a celica they will usually charge you about $290, well at least that what it is for in the 5SFE engine, which is a very simular engine, mines like .2L bigger with narrower cams i believe ~i'm probably wrong someone will point that out~ and yeah nasty thing will happen if you break you timming belt. ~i just had mine done 3 days ago, if you get it done get the seals done too, they are cheap and we usually don't like the engine leaking :)~ as far as the nosie is concerned i don't know, and i really don't have a clue with out know what the sound is like.

OH great, so my engine my blow up shortly, and it's only got 139k's on the clock, hopefully thats not the case and my celica will live a longer life spand, anyway the sound came back again, it only comes and goes after about a 10-15 min drive, i think its time to take my car to the garage, thanks for the info guys.

A timing belt going on a Toyota engine doesn't mean the engine will blow up, they are non-interference engines which means the valves can't hit the pistons. The car just won't run.

yeah well when it comes to toyota's you usually don't have to worry about the car breaking the timming belt, it will usually wear to the point where the cams gear will slide and you will notice a difference in proformance, not to mention you will probably get a warning light on the dash ~note this warning light will tell you take your car to the dealership of a dinositic, as that is where my car is right now~

i hope everything works out for you dude, you sould like you love your celica as much as i love mine, mines only got 136Km's 5 of those are frome me and the 7 weeks i have owned her Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

i don't know where you guy are from but RACQ here will check it our for you if you a member, and if they can't fix it they will give you 10Km towing, thats how mine got to the toyota service department, and if you didn't know a dinositic is an electronic interpreter that will plug into one of the plugs under your bonnet.
