advice on cleaning a uni filter!!! Sun, 18 August 2002 09:02 Go to next message
ok well i thought i might tell u what i did before you try it and see what happens, seeing as though my car is going on the dyno tomorrow i felt i should clean my filters so i looked around but couldn't find any turps and the shed was too far to walk to get some petrol so i found a tin of Acrylic Thinners in the cubboard from when we sprayed my car and i thought "may as well give it a go" so i did and as soon as i dunked the filters in they expanded to twice there origianl size, they still have the same shape and everything just twice as big as they are meant to be Rolling Eyes so take my word on this one, don't do what i did and make sure you keep your filters away from those dreaded Acrylic paint thinners. hmm ok i went back half an hour later and they were normal size again (thats after i rinsed them out in water in fear the thinners may cause the filter to break down)
now thats a funny joke to play on someone as they will freak out as i did then after a while they will be back to the normal size again hmmm weird, or is it just me? as i was leaning over a tin of thinners hmmmm... Rolling

nah its some weird chemistry at work here, i've had these filters for a couple of years now and cleaned them a hundred times with stuff and it never happened before until i used the Acrylic Thinners wonder if i get any normal sponge and put it in this stuff if it will still happen or if its just the type of stuff unifilters are made of that it effects? Rolling Eyes
