Your overlap won't match and you will probably run lean and hot. BMEP will drop. Expect burnt valves if you do it for extended periods.

I would also like to know about this. I've got my primaries hooked up, but until I get it to an exhaust shop, I can't hook the rest up. I plan to get it towed there, but I need to get it onto the back of the truck first.

Your primaries should create the required reversion, refaction and syphoning if they have been sized correctly. The collectors and secondary pipes are only a flue, although they too should create enough velocity to keep the gas hot and flowing.

Apart from sounding really cool and the most awesome noise your engine will ever make, you'll have bent exhaust valves when the cold(relative) air hits them and you get some neat thermal action.

start engine
hold cloth over exhaust pipe, blocking the flow of exhaust gases.
if engine stalls, it's not leaking (or not badly)
note: you can almost always hear exhaust leaks - they're *loud*

Just be aware that if you have an oxy sensor for injection control, any air being sucked in will affect fueling. And yes although the manifold is running at 20ish psi the velocity of the air will create a -ve static pressure on the inside skin of the manifold. In the context of this thread you are panicking for little reason.

i think that other then guessing, has anyone actually had burned or bent/warped exhaust valves from this cause??? i doubt it, other then chance & coincidence.
the corvair people used to plug their exhausts at shutdown because of these myths until they figured out that the valves were just crap(in that air cooled engine situation) to begin with.
i've been hearing this old wives tale for too long a time
